This tongue in cheek, snide, and to me annoying columnist at times...points out that she can't fix her campaign anymore. So now comes the old question that reared its head last year. When the Republicans put a new candidate in this race, will Bill Nelson go more to the right?
Harris Can't Touch Up Campaign's ProblemsThe members of the Coffee Guzzlers Club were preoccupied by trying to get the attention of our waitress, S. Lois Molasses. So none of us noticed that Nevermore, the club's pet raven and mascot, had been busy hopping or flying from one table at the Sam 'n' Ella Cafe to another. He visited only with the females at the tables, and would tuck something under his wing before hopping to the next table.
By the time I noticed, there was a big collection of lipstick tubes, eyeliner, face powder and mascara piled up across the table. Why?
Quoth the Raven: "I thought I'd see if we couldn't make U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris' campaign for the U.S. Senate look better."
Oh, better hijack a semitrailerload of cosmetics for that job, buddy. Might even need the services of a team of plastic surgeons.
Lonnie Brown goes on to point out the fundraising discrepancies between the two of them, and he says Katherine Harris did not get the message last year from the party.
A southbound express. Dropping like a rock. Fading fast. Losing ground. Deader 'n a doornail.
It's no surprise, considering the trial balloon that Harris floated when she was thinking about running was loaded with anvils. Political columnists were writing stories about how Republican string pullers in Washington and Tallahassee were trying to recruit other Republicans to run for the nomination instead.
Never one to take a hint, Harris sallied forth anyway. And then something happened that surprised even some of her supporters: The first contribution report of the campaign came out. When the weigh-in came, Nelson toted more than $1.9 million to the scales. Harris, who said she's raise $1 million, had just $498,412. The disparity has worsened. Nelson has more than $6.5 million in his campaign account. Harris has shy of $470,000.
In elections, money talks. The Republicans have assigned Harris the part of a mime.
Bye bye Katherine, don't let the door hit you on the way out. And Bill Nelson, my friend, don't forget who brought you to the party.
