Corzine Should Appoint "The Boss" To The Senate
I mean, why not? He was Born In The USA, you know what I'm sayin'?

Besides, what other New Jerseyite would piss of the radical rightwingers more than Springsteen?

7. Because Of This:

WASHINGTON - Bruce Springsteen famously was "born in the USA," but he's getting scorned in the U.S. Senate.

An effort by New Jersey's two Democratic senators to honor the veteran rocker was shot down Friday by Republicans who are apparently still miffed a year after the Boss lent his voice to the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.

The chamber's GOP leaders refused to bring up for consideration a resolution, introduced by Sens. Frank Lautenberg and Jon Corzine, that honored Springsteen's long career and the 1975 release of his iconic album, "Born to Run."

No reason was given, said Lautenberg spokesman Alex Formuzis. "Resolutions like this pass all the time in the U.S. Senate, usually by unanimous consent," he said.

10. Are there any poll (such as Quinnipac) numbers out on him?
Can he win? What is his experience in making and understanding public policy? Is he on record as posing viable, well-thought out solutions to today's problems? Is there someone that has a better chance at winning?

These are the questions that I would like answered, before I go off on some emotion-filled, vengeance-laced venture of getting Bruce Springsteen elected as a Senator.

12. Uh, he doesn't have to be elected
Edited on Sun Nov-20-05 12:59 AM by ruggerson
Corzine gets to appoint his own successor to the Senate, since he just became Governor-elect.

Bruce wouldn't have to worry about running for election until next fall. And he would be the incumbent.

15. I know that. Again, my questions need to be answered.
These are questions I ask of any Democrat that is running less than one year from an election.

17. Bruce is pretty much golden in NJ
Edited on Sun Nov-20-05 01:16 AM by ruggerson
he is the state hero. I doubt very much whether he would have a tough time as an incumbent in 06.

Just seeing him on the senate floor with Trent Lott, Bill Frist and George Allen would be humorous enough to make me fly to Washington and spend a day in the gallery.

And imagine Patti with the other senate spouses.

;-)

I didn't know that. Wow. Would he want to do that though? And how like them to not give him that honor. Go figure. They need some passies.

18. Although I doubt Bruce would want to be Senator
The comments he made before the Madison Wi speech about the needs of people not making it in this country visibly moved Senator Kerry, They were neither trite nor simplictic. He genuinely understands the problems on both an intellectual and a personal level. He also has been very involved in helping deal with Asbury Park's troubles

At this point he could sound like a scuffier, NJ version of Edwards, but Edwards was a lawyer and probably had ideas on how laws could be changed to improve things. I would guess Springsteen may see that his best way of effecting change is through his music.

23. " ....viable, well-thought out solutions to today's problems" What!
Since when was THAT a pre-requisite for public office?

90% of Congress is unqualified by your standards--not to mention that gang of idiots, crooks and war criminals in the White House.

Compared to that Bruce stands up very well indeed.

I doubt he's interested, though. I think he's a smart man who knows where his talents lie.

9. He's somebody with moral underpinning, communication skills and popularity
I'm deadly serious about this. This is hardly flippant; the guy obviously has a social message, and he's a lightning rod for many people.

The right plays on the common man individual crap, and here's a guy who embodies it more than most. He's a sharp guy and wouldn't just be a figurehead; he'd be humbled by the charge and work like a dog.

It's actually a great idea.

6. Hey, the guy's a writer; he's got more right than a mere actor
Not to denigrate the art of acting, but the art of a writer--a true poet, in this case--is one of storytelling, observation and synthesis, rather than just interpretation. If Reagan can be president, Springsteen certainly can; Reagan wasn't half the artist Springsteen is.

30. I would imagine he could too, but one stated reason he decided not
to run when he left the Senate was his disgust with the decline of civility in the Senate. This year the Senate has been an order of magnitude worse. Kerry, for one, has spoken of several times. His comments before "Justice" Sunday - where he described how some Senator said that he had never seen anything like Voinivich refusing to go along on Bolton where such events were once common place.

The question is whether he would want to go into such a negative environment for the good of the country. It also is important to have someone commited to run in 2006 - so Bradley would need to commit to 7 years.

I would like him to pick Russ Holt as the selection would likely give a large amount of attention to Election reform as that has been an area Holt has been a leader in. From the small number of times I've heard him he is great and I think having someone with real tech knowledge would be a real gain for the Senate. (My apologies in advance if there is a Senator like this - I'm basing this on an old list of tech savvy Congressmen that was posted during the election because the only Senator on the list was Kerry - who doesn't have a technical background but worked hard to learn the issues to represent MA high tech industries.)

27. I'm a huge fan, but why would Bruce do this?
He has far more influence, on his own terms, now.

Why get into the ugly game of politics? He doesn't need that.
