There won't be a woman on the ticket this year

Now this may tick a few people off, but the only woman who I think would be a credible choice (and by that I mean qualified -- the disastrous Ferraro slection had the effect of raising the bar for women) would be Diane Feinstein, but she won't get chosen because (a) she's boring and (b) if the Democrats need Feinstein to carry California, they may as well pack it in.

I think Mary Landrieu would be an interesting choice -- the Bush administration threw everything it had at her in 2002 and she still won -- but I don't think Kerry could pick her (since he'll never carry Louisiana) and I don't think Edwards would pick her because she's relatively inexperienced at the federal level (albeit more experienced than he is).

1. Don't like Feinstein?
I like her a lot. I think she carries herself in a Thatcher-esque manner. I think that she has been tough on Bush over the last several years. I also admire her for saving SF after the Milk assassination. Candidates should consider her even if she brings no new electoral votes with her.

2. I like Feinstein
I think she's more than qualified, having been mayor of a large city (it wouldn't surprise me if San Francisco had a larger population than the state of Vermont) and having gotten elected three times to the Senate.

But I don't think she'll be picked.
