Bob Woodward is the new Marshal Henri-Philippe Petain.
Petain was a hero in World War I, declaring that the germans "shall not pass" at the inferno of Verdun. Beloved by patriots for his steadfast resolve, he was accorded the laurels of a grateful nation for over two decades. He threw it all away by allying himself with the Nazis after the capitulation of France, and this is a striking metaphor for Bob Woodward. Watergate is long past, and upon reflection, it seems more like curiosity mixed with opportunism on his part; Bernstein is the true hero.

Bob Woodward has sold his soul. Always a conservative, it's easy to see how he was sucked into being a propagandist for the monarchists.

For him to call himself a journalist now (with the inherent implied impartiality) is deeply ugly; he is a tool of the monied elite that dream of nothing but total domination. For shame.

His professional life is over now; history already sees him as a liar in the service of feudal power.

1. You are right, Bernstein is the true hero.

I don't think Woodward ever really wanted to dig into what was really going on during the Nixon years anyway.

3. Before we make Bernstein a hero,

which is something I want to do, how come Bernstein never mentioned that Woodward was not always in the TRUTH corner?

Bernstein should have known,right?

7. I have heard him go against what Woodward has been saying

In fact, I remember him recently saying that the Watergate scandal wouldn't / couldn't happen today due to the corruption of the entire media.

2. I also suspect
that Woodward has strong feelings for Israel, which feelings have negatively impacted his ability to do proper investigative journalism on the neocon agenda and Iraq War.

4. Good analogy...
but I'm quite certain that even his "good" work was a set up for the BFEE to clean up the stage before GHWBush ran in 1979.

5. Petain ou Putain ...
Prostitution. It's a living, I guess.

Good analogy.

6. C'est vrai: il est un poule
The pyre of reputations that'll be thrown away in the next few years will shock and dismay, but they won't be particularly surprising.

11. I'm really starting to think
That Woodward is and always was some kind of operative. Our country really is screwed up. We have operatives embedded as reporters with close ties to the White House and government. How are we ever going to have an open and honest government without having a truly free press. Our forefathers are rolling over in their graves right now.
