Should we torture if it will lead to world peace? Are the polls silly?

My headline was a fake poll I thought up, but are the polls about torture silly? The new polls are about torture and they follow the idea, "if one can stop a terrorist attack by torture, would you favor torture"? But aren't these questions just plain dumb. "If crime could be stopped by installing video cameras in your home and every 10 feet outdoors, would you favor cameras"? "Would you favor having everyone give DNA samples to create a data base and solve most violent crimes." So why do a small sample think torture should be used to stop a pending terrorist attack? The other samples require the public in general to give in to government. The torture question assumes it is always someone else. Until that someone becomes you!
