Jordanians say Karen Hughes was 'Rude,' 'Insensitive,' 'Tactless'

U.S. Undersecretary of State Karen Hughes has concluded her diplomatic voyage to repair America’s image in the region. Aside from considerations of success or failure, what is more important about this visit is its ethical dimension.

First, the entire campaign was intended to alter the way Muslims perceive the United States and its policies. An objective based on the assumption that: “It is a problem inherent to Muslims that they fail to understand the heavenly foreign policies and holy wars of the United States to bring justice and peace to the Muslim World.”

As the United States claims that it is bringing justice and democracy and a whole package of lofty American values to Muslims, it also tries to teach them how to perceive the world and live their lives. Therefore, not only are Muslims ignorant about so-called justice and democracy, but they also lack the common sense to “correctly” understand the world around them, including U.S. foreign policy. In a nutshell, the U.S. is trying to tell the world how to live, how to think and how to behave! It may sound humiliating for Muslim countries to be treated this way, but who can resist in the face of such an imprudent U.S. Administration?

On her goodwill tour, Mrs. Hughes disrespectfully and implicitly conveyed the message to elite Saudi women that they are not happy; and that they need to act to positively shape the image of Saudi society in the United States. In other words, the world must to change in order to match the aspirations of the United States to become acceptable and right. The American Administration considers everything that doesn’t conform with U.S. culture or perspective to be wrong and in need of change! What a democracy!

there is two cartoons on the page, plus video of Sryian TV political satire.

Karen should go back to spending time with her family.

1. She is cast in the BushCo Skull & Boner mold
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 01:16 PM by SpiralHawk
rude, insensitive, tactless, arrogant -- and fundamentally dishonest.

Stop the Toruture now. I don't give a shit about the White House "image." I want some reality -- honest and in compliance with the Geneva Conventions.

4. The first time I saw her, back in 2000, she was the most rude,
insensitive, and tactless induhvidual I'd ever seen. She made me instantly angry. When I heard she'd been appointed as an "ambassador of goodwill" my head exploded. This is backwards-land, just like "Clear Skies Initiative," "Healthy Forests Initiative," etc.

7. Let's not forget that...
... all the professional women around Bush are either mother hens or think he's absolutely brilliant. Rice, Karen Huge (as Bob Boudelang calls her), Miers, all just adore the little prince. There's something very Stepford-ish about this as they go about the world carrying out Bush's wishes. Ultimately, their personalities may make Bush's ideas even less palatable, but the ideas are Bush's alone. That's a very creepy thought, given what we know about Bush's psychology--that the world has to conform to what's in Junior's head or else. Very creepy, indeed.

27. That whole brilliance thing...
Narcissists always surround themselves with people who worship them - it feeds their need for adulation. It can be very, very hard to break free from such a relationship. I speak from unfortunate personal experience.

It's no surprise that Bush found a few to hang onto for a long time (having associated with Rice, Hughes, and Miers for years) - this relationship also elevated them to powerful positions.

14. So you might say she's treating Jordanians as she does American Democrats?
Once they're out of power, we need to form a "I survived the neocon idiocy," Club with buttons and bumpstickers.

24. She's about as subtle
as a middle line-backer. She went charging into countries, and proceeded to lecture them about what they were doing wrong. How is that a "listening" tour? Of all the women to send, she was the absolute worst choice. Wait...the only worse example I can think of is that braying freeperish woman at the Republican Convention, with the insulting purple heart on a band-aid. They are both good examples of conservative women.
