Does Clark have to win at least one state Tues?
Edwards *has* to win SC, the state of his birth, to remain viable. Even he admits this.

But . . . does Clark have to win any of them Tuesday night to remain in the top tier of likely nominees? Oklahoma for instance?

Edwards has said he has been to Oklahoma twice as many times as any other candidate and has twice as many "people on the ground" organizing there. Somebody here at DU said Kerry wasn't going to Oklahoma at all.

Does Clark have to take Oklahoma at least?

1. I think he needs Oklahoma
and some good showings in a few others.

2. He can carry on with several strong
second place finishes but he really needs at least one WIN to put the issue to rest of not having successfully faced an election.

3. I won't say it's a "have to" situation
But it will certainly be more of a struggle if he doesn't win one next week. Or have a strong combination of second places (SC and others)

4. Yes he does
And this goes for anyone else not named Kerry. If Kerry can be shut out on Tuesday, which could happen, then his "mo" will be questioned. If Clark could pull off a couple wins, then he will get a lot of good (and free) press. If he does not do it, people will wonder where he can win.

5. Perhaps not win any primaries, but he has to start picking up
delegates. Coming in a close second in several races will start putting names on his roster, and the more the merrier.

Not that you'll hear about anything except how Clark has to drop out for the good of the party. The big story is going to be Kerry taking Missouri on a wing and a prayer. Clark could blow away all the other primaries and take them all, and it still won't matter.

Kerry is our appointed and anointed nominee.

So it is written, so it is done.

Unless, of course, we beat his Yankee butt. Even FAUX and CNN and MSNBC won't be able to avoid reporting that.

10. Kerry win/Clark
"Kerry is our appointed and anointed nominee."

Funny, I seem to remember people saying this about Dean a couple months ago.

I don't take Kerry's lead for granted, I hope he doesn't. Winning 2 small states doesn't prove anything. Provide momentum, yes, but he still needs more wins.

11. And of course if Kerry does win any next Tues,
it would have nothing to do with the people choosing him over others, as they did in Iowa and N.H. It would be all the press and God knows who. But If Dean or the others win, well the people have spoken.

I like Clark very much, by the way and think the others are fine people too.

7. Clark Needs OK, and He'll Get It
And if he's lucky, one other state. What he needs to fear is Kerry winning DE, NO, NM, and AZ. That might be a knockout.

New Mexico
Last poll I saw had Clark and Kerry pretty tight in NM.

But I think that was pre-NH.

Regardless, with Kerry focusing on Missouri and South Carolina, there's a window for Clark in the southwest. We'll see if he takes advantage of it.

8. Conventional wisdom...
...says he'll need to bag at least one state Tuesday, yes.

I hadn't heard anything about Edwards having the most ground support in Oklahoma. I saw an OK reporter on C-SPAN yesterday saying Clark had the most organization there.

Ah, well. It's probably just a matter of who you ask and where yer looking. We shall see how it all shakes out.

At any rate, I'm guessing Edwards will end up pouring more resources into SC since he's declared it his "must-win" challenge. Now that Kerry has grabbed the Clyburn endorsement, Edwards is gonna have to work the state a little harder than he might've expected.

That could have a positive effect for Clark in OK.

9. And in SC as well
And does NOBODY but me take Al Sharpton seriously in SC and Delaware?

12. Yes
And I would really like 2 or 3 to feel good about the next round.

I've written off SC, Edwards can have it. I want a good showing though, and I would love to knock Kerry out of second place.

Clark has a great chance in OK, NM and AZ.

13. Yes, at least one
and I'd be more comfortable about him getting any positive press, let alone "legs" if he won at least 3. Winning two would help some, but not enough to put him "on the map" without a LOT more effort. PAID effort, since it's very likely that the media will write off one or two as a "fluke."

14. Anyone who isn't named Kerry has to win at least one state
to stop the momentum and to get their campaign back on track. If you are a Kerry fan, good for you. He's doing a good job.
