WASHINGTON - No matter who wins Ohio's Senate Democratic primary next year, Tim Ryan hopes to be remembered as a man of his word.

In politics, what can possibly be more important than that?

"If you don't keep your word in this business, you don't last very long,'' Ryan said, sounding exactly like what he is - a man who made a difficult choice and is prepared to live with it, whatever the consequences.

For Ryan, the decision meant taking sides in the Senate primary. His endorsement of Indian Hill attorney Paul Hackett has put him at odds with one of his close political allies, Ohio Congressman Sherrod Brown.
