John Edwards - “The Right Way in Iraq”, Seconding the Call
John Edwards - “The Right Way in Iraq”, Seconding the Call
November 13th, 2005

Ron posted the first quips from John Edwards OP/ED in the WaPo earlier tonight. It’s great to see John Edwards step up to the plate and second the call that John Kerry made recently to bring the troops home after the December election in Iraq.

Edwards reiterates in his OP/ED what Kerry laid out first in his speech at Georgetown on October 26th, and most recently in the Senate on November 10th with his “Strategy for Success in Iraq Act.”

John Edwards says “A plan for success needs to focus on three interlocking objectives: reducing the American presence, building Iraq’s capacity and getting other countries to meet their responsibilities to help.” These are all basic points that Kerry has made repeatedly.

3. Actually...
As I said in my piece about this Kerry has been calling for this for some time - Clark says noting in August that Kerry did not say before him - most notably June 28th - http://blog.thedemocraticdaily.com/?page_id=230

5. Who gets someplace first is generally less important to me then
Edited on Sun Nov-13-05 12:53 PM by Tom Rinaldo
who gets there last, and I am just making a general observation now. No one person is always the first to connect the dots perfectly on everything, and I don't expect that from a President either. I expect a leader who can distinguish a good argument from a bad one quickly, they don't have to be the first one to make the argument every time. But they better not always trail the pack either, then they are simply poll watchers.

7. I think the comment above was more directed that
Edwards, between the three (Clark, Kerry and Edwards) was the third, no matter who was first or second.

Of course, if you really want to get technical, Clark told the HASC in September 2002 that going to war in Iraq would be a mistake, so, in that sense, Kerry WAS after him.

But, I'm not quibbling. I'm just making an observation.

4. In a nutshell
What matters most is that they are all getting on the same page now.

Kerry laid out similar plans during the campaign. Circumstances were different. Now there is more of a consensus to get this done. With the Kerry Iraq Act placed on record in Senate Thursday, this is a huge step.

I've always been glad that Clark and others speak up -

6. Create trouble for everyone, go back
Once again America thoughtlessly messes in another country's business, creates a mess, and runs away. A curious mix of childishness and imperial ambitions. Sure, go home, leave a failed state for Israel to deal with.

How about taking American advisors from Romania, Ukraine, Georgia, and a host of other post-commi countries before similar mess is created there, as well?

8. I am happy to have others stand up and take a stand just like Kerry!
I just hope that the main message doesn't get muddled while everyone who supports someone claims their person said this first. The message is the most important part of this.

9. John Edwards Could Be Our "Best" Candidate If ne Looked
very closely! I've stated many many pluses he would bring in the past. He's from the South, He has Charisma, He has Elizabeth and much more.

I won't go into all of MY pluses, but I'll stick with him.

IMO, if Democrats overlook him, and instead nominate Hillary.... well for me, just say Sayonara!!

and when the people's sentiments turn against that war, you say you are sorry 2.5 years later...make you the "best" candidate?

How does that work?

14. I think it would be great if he were to go on FOX and promote
the Democratic party and vision. It's necessary to expose that group of viewers to our party's point of view and Edwards is very eloquent and good at getting a point accross.

I would guess that he understands as well as anybody, the need for getting our message accross to those not usually exposed to it. I, for one, would love to see as many Dems as possible going into the lions den.

16. I don't know what an eeerwinger is, but if you love me
then it must be something good, so I'll say that you do the same. Love ya too.:*

Oh, and it may very well bite him in the ass for '08. Maybe he's more interested in getting the Dem message out to those who normally wouldn't hear it than in polical ambitions. Who knows? Not worried about it at this point.

17. Yeah,
It really is refreshing to have a political figure out there who is more worried about our future and the future of this country than his own future...Apparently it's hard for some to comprehend someone who would actually put the good of the country (and, in this case, the world) above their own good.

12. Correction...
I Said "One Of The Best!" I'm a big supporter of his for other reasons, the war thing was a problem. But WHO of those who voted against the war will be able to get nominated???
