On Tweety today, David Schuster reports that the relationship has cooled
between Junior and Cheney, and they may be sleeping in separate bedrooms!

Cheney's attempts to create an illusion--that Mohammed Atta was connected to Iraq--were highlighted. Clips of Cheney were played in which he claimed Atta "met in Prague in April, 2001, with a member of Iraqi intelligence."

At one point, Cheney says this was "pretty well confirmed". At another point, a clip shows Cheney saying "it has never been able to be confirmed, nor can we knock it down."

All of these claims about Atta in Prague come from a notation in the notebook of an Iraqi ambassador to Czechoslovakia. The notation shows an alleged appointment with "Hamburg student". THE NAME ATTA APPEARS NOWHERE. Iraq-war cheerleaders simply picked up on that notation and tried to connect it to Atta because Atta had been in Hamburg before.

On a semi-wingnut site I used to post on, a poster there repeatedly flogged this alleged "connection" btw Atta and Iraq. Over and over and over he repeated it as though it were fact. It's hard to believe, but I think the war party actually may have smalltime propagandists whom they compensate to go on internet sites and spread disinformation.

1. Even if this is true
my guess is that Bush's main complaint would be that Cheney made him look bad, rather than complaints about the bad information or war cheerleading itself.

3. Strange....
Tweety and the mainstream media are finally questioning Cheney and the rest of the neocon's bullshit during the runup to the war. At the DU, we were talking about these things as they were happening.

4. BS. This is damage control. Cheney is the ultimate fall guy. And this
way idiot son is a bit insulated if Cheney goes down in Plamegate and he can be blamed for the Iraq debacle.

However, at best people should consider Bush a poor leader when all is said and done.

6. My thought exactly, Mol. It all sounds too pat.
The Corporate spokesmodels all out there repeating this rumor in unison.

Smells fishy.

NGU.

13. But... Cheney's the president!
Isn't he??

Cut off the head and the body dies?

If getting Cheney doesn't put a stop to this poisonous administration, then I agree, it'll have to keep on till we get Chimpy.

Hey, why is Cheney so all-fired adamant that that bill curtailing torture not be passed?? I mean, it's almost like he's frantic to keep it from being passed.

Could the passage of that bill create some sort of sea-change in the law that might make it more possible for Cheney (and Bush) to one day be tried as war criminals at The Hague?

15. Exactly ... This is how Damage Control Works...
Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 06:25 PM by radio4progressives
put up smoke screens and mirrors so that the guy behind the curtain is ignored. The media has their marching orders, and we buy into because the fact of the matter is Cheney IS an evil fuck so we're almost happy to hang him alone.

They BOTH must be IMPEACHED, TRIED AND CONVICTED. \\

TOGETHER.

This can be done in '06 IF the DEMS win back the house and the senate... which would make Nancy Pelosi the Speaker of the House, following an impeachment and resignations/convictions of both president and veep, the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi would then be President and the entire scene changes.

And the MEDIA knows this. They're going to do everything in their power to prevent such a scenario - so they will be cooperating with the GOP to prevent this from occuring.

That's why we have to hit all the major issues on all fronts - our communities, our representatives and the Media.

all at the same time...

20. We need to be reminding people that cheney wouldn't be IN THERE
to begin with, flouting the law, throwing his weight around, pushing for torture, pushing for petty political vendettas, sneaking around behind closed doors with those hush-hush oil industry task force shenanigans... IF IT HADN'T BEEN FOR bUSH. If it WEREN'T for bush, there'd BE NO cHENEY in the first place!!!

Whether they like it or not, all roads lead back to george. THEY all came to the dance with HIM. Don't like Brownie? Then time to get rid of him and then turn on the guy who brought him to the dance. Don't like Chertoff? Take it to that emperor guy who's always running around naked. Don't like scooter? Or rove? Or contradicta? Or dick? Or bolton? Or rummy? NOT ONE OF THEM would be where they are today, in position to do the damage they've done to ALL OF AMERICA AND ALL AMERICANS, were it not for bush. He foisted every last miserable one of these demons onto us, and the blame, and their hiring, and their promotion, and their advancement and transfer upwards, AND the fabled "buck" - stops with bush. He is the root cause and the LOWEST common denominator that they all share.

21. Exactly. This is an 'ATTEMPT' to distance, but it won't work.
Bush is SUPPOSED TO BE A RESOLUTE LEADER. Now they are trying to make him into a victim? It's going to be a disaster for them either way in the end.

8. There's nothing cold as ashes
after the fire is gone...

Love is where you find it when you find no love at home.
And there's nothing cold as ashes after the fire is gone.

The bottle is almost empty,
The clock just now struck ten.
Darling, I had to call you to our favorite place again.
We know it's wrong for us to meet,
But the fire's gone out at home.
And there's nothing cold as ashes after the fire is gone.

Love is where you find it when you find no love at home.
And there's nothing cold as ashes after the fire is gone.

Your lips are warm and tender,
Your arms hold me just right.
Sweet words of love you remember, that the one at home forgot.
Each time we say it's last time,
But we keep hanging on.
And there's nothing cold as ashes after the fire is gone.

Love is where you find it when you find no love at home.
And there's nothing cold as ashes after the fire is gone.

11. ROFLMAO...
er... I mean... oh, isn't it sad!

Another country song fits the Lott-Frist matter (or it could fit the Lott-Rove-Bush matter, since Rove/Bush stabbed little Trent in the back as surely as did the ol' cat killer.) "Pick Me Up On Your Way Down."

Trent to Rove:

"You were mine for just awhile,
Now you're putting on the style,
And you never once looked back,
To your home across the track,
You're the gossip of the town,
But my heart can still be found,
Where you tossed it on the ground,
Pick me up on your way down."

(Faron Young)

I love it when repukes fight each other. It makes it so much easier for the rest of us.

16. Who will pull the puppet strings if Cheney is gone?
I have this fantasy that goes like this. Bush kicks out all those who are running things behind the scenes and takes over control of the administration himself. He appoints new people to work for him and to get his poll numbers up he let's Dems give him the new domestic and foreign policies that he pushes for the next 3 years.

17. If Cheney goes, the Chimperor will be like
that Eskimo village I read about once: these explorers came upon this village and they found it deserted, but there was half-cooked food in the pots, and everything was just as though people had put down what they were doing in mid-task, and had just left, forever.

Emptiness. How I would love it. The light bill at the White House wouldn't get paid. Two months later, FEMA would go in and look for bodies.

Then, at last, the rest of us could go up there and take back our government.

18. Just trying to give Bush some cover. They need his coattails.
We know Bush is controlled BUT we also know that he knows about everything that is going on. He can't have it both ways. Either he is in charge or he isn't.

and pretty soon Junior's gonna wake up and find Cheney's head in his bed. (Cue "Godfather" theme music...)
