Poll question: Cheney's Secret Energy Meetings in 2001 {poll}
If the minutes of these meetings were made public, would this be the definitive evidence that this administration was planning the war/invasion of Iraq within weeks of taking power?

If so, they'd have to develop a plan and evidence to justify their invasion.

1. Even if it's domestic, govt. secrets don't belong in a democracy.
The only reason it is secret is so the people don't know how badly they are being screwed.

3. My take is....
Nothing seems to matter anymore(as far as impeachment is concerned).
Isn't there enough evidence already?
Anyone interested in politics knows that the war was planned well before the shrub "became" President.
Sorry about the negativity!

4. How on earth can they claim an energy meeting is Secret anyway?
This wasn't a war planning breifing, it was a discussion of our future energy needs. What's next, top secret school board meetings?

5. Seems rather odd, no?
If this series of meetings were strictly to develop a national energy policy, why would they take this up all the way to the Supreme Court to keep it a secret? Obviously, Cheney's hunting trip with Scalia was all about cover-up and getting the fix in to keep the lid on it.

My point is, they needed a place to do their planning away from the public. They focused on divvying up the Iraqi national oil assets amongst their core Republican contributors. This was never about democracy building or WMD or Saddam is evil....it was about the PNAC plan to control oil, water, and a strategic location to maintain US dominance. Unfortunately, we, the American people, got no say in this plan.

If we could get access to these meeting minutes, it will clearly show that the planning for the invasion was fleshed out here....all they needed was to plant "evidence" to justify their plan.

11. With Alito on the SCOTUS, no chance of ever finding out...
Truthfully, I don't think they care one whit about over-turning Roe V. Wade. I'd bet they're stacking the courts in preparation for the Scandal (pick one) appeals. I'm sure that's why he nominated Miers. Does anyone think she'd have ruled against the bestest President ever?

6. The PNAC documents, that predate the 2000 Election
clearly stated that the US needed to control Iraq's oil fields.

17. Wasn't there also a map that designated what Oil Company
would be taking the oil in that part of Iraq?

18. I think so.
Figures that they'd focus on the spoils, 1st. Like the Big Oil administration would waste its time with Saddam and 'democracy building' if Iraq was not sitting on the 2nd largest oil reserves.

10. Karsai, Ken Lay and the Taliban were in Cheney's meetings.
Should the meetings ever be exposed, Bush and Cheney would not only be out of work, but possibly tried for treason because of the events of September 11th.

19. I bet Saudi Arabia had their part to play, too.
15/19 hijackers were Saudis...so how do we react?

(1) Take out SA's #1 secular threat.
(2) Keep the Iraqi oil off the market...increasing the value of the SA reserves.
(3) Exit SA airbases
(4) Provide American soldiers to act as a lightening rod for Islamic fundementalism which takes the domestic pressure off the House of Saud.
(5) Allow Osama bin Laden's relatives to fly out while US citizens were grounded.

Was there a quid pro quo going on here? The big ME winners appear to be SA, Israel, Halliburton, Exxon, and the Carlyle Group. Iraq and the US appear to be the losers.

14. Who knows? Given the complete meltdown underway, a leak or
2 of memo's with the words "invasion", "oil privitization", "planted evidence" could blow the lid right off the administration's case to keep this hidden from Congress and the public.

15. Not only that, it would probably have discussed 9-11 and the invasion
of Afghanistan...after all, this is the Pearl Harbor they needed to pull off all their crimes since then. It also probably discussed domestic crimes like the theft of billions from California by Cheney and the energy barons. Their plan to crush California was important because it was a huge economy.
