On This Election Day, Send Some Good Thoughts To Maine!
Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 07:52 AM by MarianJack
We have a referendum today (since the fundies put it on the ballot, we can say referenDUMB!) about our law that forbids discrimination against Gays & Lesbians.

The law simply states that it is illegal to discriminate due to sexual orientation. The fundies, of course, lied and claim that its all about gay marriage.

Yes is to repeal the law, NO is to keep the law.

Latest polls show a nice 56-57% for NO, but the fundies are good for coming out (no pun intended) to vote for their own lies, so send some good thoughts our way today.

Hopefully, tonight we will be celebrating as Maine leads the Nation into the 21st century and we'll make the righties hate us as much as they do Vermont and Mass.

PEACE!

2. I am on the way to vote this morning but first I must do this----
Re-check how each thing is put down. I hate the way some things are worded. You have to make sure what yes and no is really doing. Drives me nuts.

...NO keeps discrimination against gays & Lesbians ILLEGAL in Maine. Yes repeals the law and removes any legal bar to discrimination because of sexual orientation.

Even more simple, we want a NO vote, the robertson, falwell, dobson sect wants a yes vote.

NO on 1!

5. Let's hope this gay bashing referendum in Maine does not pass.
Former U.N. Ambassador and Senator John Danforth is right when he says his party has been taken over by the far right and it is not good for the country or his party.

13. What really frosts me...
...is not the bigotry, but the laziness, of the opposition.

The legislature has passed this bill three times. Three times the bigots couldn't be bothered defeating it there, or electing representatives who would defeat it there. Instead, they wait and do a People's Veto referendum instead.

I'd love to see where the fundraising money actually goes. I'm betting that in the case of the referenda, the money goes to out-of-state hired guns, religious groups, etc.

They'll win, even when they lose.

14. I Don't Think That the Fundies Are Lazy,...
...I think they know that they can't get an extremist legislature elected.

Its easier to get a devoted extremist fringe out in a referendum where the general public may not turn out in big numbers.

I hope that michael heath and the "christian" civic league get their bigoted asses spanked big time tonight!

NO on 1!
