US condemns Myanmar over secret trials
http://www.boston.com/news/world/asia/articles/2005/11/08/us_condemns_myanmar_over_secret_trials/

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States on Monday condemned military-ruled Myanmar's secret trials and lengthy prison sentences for eight Shan political leaders in a Yangon court last week.

Hkun Htun Oo, Chairman of the United Nationalities Alliance, a coalition of pro-democracy ethnic parties, was sentenced to 53 years and two life sentences, the U.S. State Department said.

Six other leaders of ethnic rebel groups fighting for independence from Myanmar, the former Burma, also received multiple life sentences, the State Department said.

"These actions demonstrate that the junta's so-called 'roadmap to disciplined democracy' is neither credible nor inclusive," State Department spokesman Adam Ereli said in a statement.

So...Adam Ereli will soon be criticizing the "junta" currently ruling the United States and that "junta"'s attempts at its own secret tribunals and years-long detentions w/o charges or trials?

1. I've gotta get me a new irony meter.
BushCo keeps pegging the current one.

Disappearances, secret prisons, indefinite imprisonment
without charge or trial, and torture don't indicate
that heathly a democracy here either.

George Bush has wrecked America's moral authority on
human rights. That is a tragedy.

Bush Campaign Gear Made in Burma

His campaign store sells a pullover from nation whose products he has banned from being sold in the U.S.

The official merchandise Web site for President George W. Bush's re-election campaign has sold clothing made in Burma, whose goods were banned by Bush from the U.S. last year to punish its military dictatorship.

7. Junior needs to read his Bible. (Matthew 7: 2-12)
"Why do you observe the splinter in your brother’s eye and never notice the great log in your own? And how dare you say to your brother, “Let me take that splinter out of your eye,” when, look, there is a great log in your own? Hypocrite! Take the log out of your own eye first, and then you will see clearly enough to take the splinter out of your brother’s eye."
