Dean should revise his comments in light of the Scanlon Memo
I remember a while back Howard Dean made a statement along the lines of "The Republicans are the party of White Christians", and he received a considerable amount of flack for that statement.

However, as revealed in the Scanlon memo (a strategy memo from one Republican strategist to another), Dr. Dean's statement was not quite accurate. There is a relationship between Conservative Christians and the Republican party, but it is not the way most Christians think.

Here is how the Republicans describe the role of Conservative Christians in their plan:

****

"We plan to use three forms of communications to mobilize and win these battles. Phones, mail and Christian radio. We believe that if you are on TV you are generally losing battles like this Our mission is to get specifically selected groups of individuals to the polls to speak out AGAINST something."

"To that end, your money is best spent finding them and communicating with them on using the modes that they are most likely to respond to. Simply put we want to bring out the wackos to vote against something and make sure the rest of the public lets the whole thing slip past them. The wackos get their information from the Christian right, Christian radio, mail, the internet and telephone trees."

****

The Republican is referring to conservative Christians when he says, "the wackos". So Dr. Dean should revise his statement to something along the lines of:

"The Republican party is the party that uses Christians by cynically manipulating their sincere faith in God, and using their desire to make a difference in the world as a way to further Republican electoral ambitions."

That would be a more accurate statement, in light of the facts which have come to light in the Scanlon memo.

1. You think that would wake up Christians? I sure don't think so
After years of observation, I've come to think that Christians are a sort of fraternity, and that they'll sacrifice it all to belong. I also don't think they're too bright. If I'm somehow wrong, somebody please show me how.

2. They could use the phrase someone coined on DU:
I forgot who it was.. but they came up with this for Democratic bumper stickers-

"I'm a CHRISTIAN, not a FRISTian!"

:headbang:

If the Christian Right still supports LIARS like Frist, Delay, and the rest of them.. there's ZERO hope for them. :tinfoilhat:
