(from the front page of the 10/30/05 (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot Voter Guide, may it resonate with the other 49 states in future elections)
2.2 Million
registered voters
didn't go to the polls
in Virginia's last
election for governor.
That means only 44 percent
of Hampton Roads' registered
voters bothered to vote.
In Liberia, 75 percent of the population voted for president early this month, and many stood in long lines through the night.
In Iraq, 63 percent of registered voters turned out to vote this month on a new constitution - in most cases, risking their lives to do so.
In Haiti, more than 60 percent of the adult population is registered to vote in the November election - despite dilapidated registration sites with no electricity and poor roads, illiteracy and political violence.
So what's your excuse this year?
Vote Nov.8.
