Al Franken Book
Pg. 114...automated calls prior to election day 04 which indicated:

When you vote this Tues., remember to legalize gay marriage by supporting John Kerry. It's what we all want. It's a basic Democratic principle.

Was that for real or RW propaganda?

1. John Kerry's position is that he doesn't support gay marriage
but he doesn't want a Constitutional amendment banning it, either.

Kerry criticized the Massachusetts Democratic Party for supporting gay marriage.

3. It's Al Franken's book, The Truth w/Jokes
personally, I could care less...civil unions, gay marriages w/all the rights and priviliges of conventional marriages.
I am in my early 40's but my husband & I have taught our children not to hate those w/differing viewpoints &/or values; however, my parents are of the 'pull them into the town square and stone them' kind of mentality. I guess it will take another generation to effect positive change in this country...ugh!

4. I'm in my 20s...
I come from a religious family. My parents are in their late 60s early 70s. My dad was a preacher. But I never heard them mention anything negative about other people like that. They didn't make it much of an issue. I wasn't told not to have gay friends or anything of that effect. I'm in the mind state that religion shouldn't mix with politics. If two men or two women want to get married it's not my business to tell them they can't. No matter what I feel my personal morals are I don't want them to be imposed on others.

On the book issue I'm not sure if it's true but I don't think it's far fetched. Rove doesn't have a problem going through opponents trash and stealing from campaign offices.

6. In my mind, though, this is the big issue
would it be correct to align one w/righteousness (gay marriage-OK) or to deny based upon the idea that sweeping social change such as this takes generations and one will not get elected by aligning themselves w/consciousness over what is plausibly achieved w/in one voting cycle.

7. I scanned forward...
Dick & Lynne Cheney's daughter
Alan Keyes' daughter
Phyllis Schaffley's child (?)...good, god-fearing republicans.

I don't justify hatred, I am simply trying to understand the justification because, as I see it, there is simply no basis for such and I am simply shocked at those who see otherwise. From my point of view, I see it as a generational issue which will be obliterated w/generation x - my children, who have been taught basic human values.

8. Yes it was
My phone number used to belong to a republican. I got all there computer calls during the election once of them said exactly that. I got recorded calls from the govenator and rudy ...my phone rang off the hook from with republican recorded messages.

It is ringing off the hook this week over the reform Ohio issues. One call tells me to vote no because Dems just want to steal elections...another says Issue 3 will cost 90 million dollars. I sure with they would have a real person me...grrr

9. I don't think the government
should be able to tell you who you can or cannot marry. It's about privacy and less government interference. Wait a minute! That sounds very Republican. But wait! They want the government to interfere. I'm so confused!
