Suppose a Democrat were in the White House
and at the beginning of the second year of his second term his job approval ratings were at an all time low, past deceptions that cost thousands of lives were coming to light, and his energy policies had middle and working class Americans worried if they'd survive the winter. If that were the scenario, would we here at DU see reality for what it was and push for resignation or impeachment, or would we blindly support "our" president the way many repugs back their boy?

we are the underground, our own Democrats who are in office don't get off easy so why would a fictitious president with a record like that?

3. Liberals/Progressives tend to only blindly believe in what is right...

At least I do.

It is called Ethics, Morals, and High Standards.

We may not all agree but the result is always for the good - not evil like the Republicans/Conservatives.

All I know is if a Dem President pulled that shit, it would look something like this, regardless of what DUers thought.

6. Consider how we react to Clinton some days here
If we were like that, Bubba would have an easier time here.

7. Impeachment proceedings would have happen months ago and
the new President would have selected a new VP by now.

9. I was thinking the same thing
from a domestic progressive perspective, LBJ was was advancing by far the most progressive Presidency in American history.

But, when the reality of the Viet Nam war started to set-in Democrats deserted him in droves.

Sometimes I am amused by some youngsters who think that the Democrats can win by becoming more militaristic. LBJ lost his base of support not because he was seen as week on defense but because of his militarism. Nixon was elected not because he would "stay the course" in Viet Nam but because he promised to end the war and bring peace. Just as Ike was elected years earlier not because He was going to kick ass in Korea but because he promised to go to Korea and end the war. Whatever political advantage is gained by appealing to the darkest and most sinister side of the human character by the misguided policy of bombing for votes is very short live.
