Rove's dying dream

Karl Rove's Dying Dream
So much for the permanent Republican majority.

Karl Rove's dream is dying. This is happening for reasons that have nothing to do with Valerie Plame.

Rove's dream was to reshape American politics by creating a durable Republican majority. In the old days, Rove told anyone who would listen that his role model in this project was the legendary political boss Mark Hanna.

Hanna was the brain behind William McKinley's political career in much the same way that Rove ("the architect") is the brain behind Bush's. McKinley was an affable, none-too-bright former congressman when Hanna helped elect him governor of Ohio. In 1896, Hanna raised an unprecedented amount of money and ran a sophisticated, hardball campaign that got McKinley to the White House. One could go on with the analogy: McKinley governed negligently in the interests of big business and went to war on flimsy evidence that Spain had blown up the USS Maine.

2. It's a dream that deserves to die.
From the John McCain "How would you feel if you knew he had an illegitimate black baby" smear to the Swift Boat Motherf**kers, this dream needs shovel after shovel after shove full of dirt thrown on its rotted corpse. The "legacy" of this fat prick is a national embarassment.

6. Excellent analysis great comparison.
I think we are well ahead of the curve in outing the false cause of current war.

The Republicans will have to eat a lot of crow to embrace John McCain.

7. Let's face it - the religious right rule right now. They make Dick and
George and the ceo's, bankers, and military brass dance for them.

Rove is losing his balance and seems to be in a well watched fall over the cliff where he will land on a comfortable ledge that has natural boundaries. He'll be thrown a phone and will continue to contribute, but with diminishing influence because Dick and George won't be there - the one he thinks for and the one whose directions he follows (performs for).

It's all for nothing if we don't educate everyone about the goals and objectives of the Federalist Society, PNAC wannabes, Carlyle, Halliburton, Tri-Lateral Commission, (add your own).

THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD WANT PEACE.

9. the conclusion is fairly right, the analysis mostly wrong

Sometimes a ruling coalition is just plain finished and The People is done with it.

Weisberg always finds a back door for Republicans' chances. He thinks he's smart, I think he's annoyingly wrong 90% of the time but has gotten lucky.

And John McCain is not the future of the Republican Party.

10. I don't remember who said that movements tend to over-reach after a while
when they start feeling safe and untouchable. When they go to far, the electorate gets fed up, and a change happens.
