Recd a letter from my OK Senator, Tom Coburn, today

Dear (me),

Thank you for your e-mail regarding the War in Iraq, rising gas prices,
Abu Ghraib, and Osama Bin Laden.

I understand your concern with the progress being made in Iraq due to the
violence you see on television and in other news reports. However, I do
not believe our efforts there amount to a colossal failure. Saddam
Hussein's regime is no longer in power and the Iraqi people were able to
vote for a democratically-elected government Jan. 30. We have trained
over 170,000 Iraqis to shoulder the security burden in their country and
have rebuilt critical infrastructure, including 3,500 schools.
Furthermore, the Iraqi people have just ratified their constitution which
puts them upon the path of electing a government in December.

blah, blah, blah...

DU - 170,000 !?! That is greater than the number of American soldiers in Iraq! Don't forget, this is one of the insane RW pro-torture senators.

6. Good for you for emailing him. I have to admit I haven't even bothered

with "our" two freak senators. Coburn's an idiot. But maybe I will send him an email about the recent car bombs, IEDs, etc., that are killing and maiming soldiers and Iraqi citizens every day. What good is "critical infrastructure" if you can't live long enough to enjoy it? I bet all the wounded and orphaned children are really thankful that Mr. Bush rebuilt 3500 schools among all the buildings he destroyed in the first place.

7. I find Coburn both interesting and repulsive

He's repulsive in his religious zealotry, but at the same time, he's not very well liked on the Hill by his fellow brownshirts because he's not affraid to break with the herd. For instance, he an outspoken critic on the highway bill (the giant multi billion repug pork project that funded the bridge to nowhere) which pissed a lot of his fellow senators off.
