Very Promising sign in CO
Colorado voters approved suspending their "taxpayer bill of rights" allowing their state government to raise taxes to pay down debt, and maintain state programs. This (especially in a red state like Colorado) is a great sign that the "tax revolt" is coming to an end, and that people are willing to pay their fair share for a competent sustainable government.

3. please note that this was NOT a tax increase...
the rw tried hard to sink C and did sink D by putting that premise forward. NO new taxes come from this.

4. Yes I suppose...
Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 11:23 AM by BL611
evidently CO citizens were supposed to get back a large rebate which they will not, I suppose its semantics whether that is or isn't an increase (and probably best to frame it as NOT an increase), but still a good sign. I'm not from the state and not too familiar with how the whole thing works, so if anyone wants to explain go ahead....

6. This is promising...
There was a LOT of very vocal "anti-tax" folks who fought against this, but I'm not surprised that it passed. The supporters of the referendums were not people on the fringe. They were policemen, firefighters, educators, EMTs, etc. I think a lot of people were able to see past the anti-tax nonsense and vote for the greater good. I'm proud of my state.

11. It's encouraging that 2004 wasn't a fluke.
I know we're just fly-over territory to you, but we're not as "red" a state as you think. True, Bush got more votes here...BARELY, but there's more.

Last year, Colorado also voted in a complete Dem takeover of the legislature, voted in wind farm alternative energy, a massive expansion of the public light rail lines in Denver (the 3rd time expansions were approved, which is the only municipality to approve of light rail in the US during the 90s/2000s). Couple that with this year's approval of 1 oz of MJ posession in Denver, and you got some progressives here who are successful in getting people out to vote. 73% of Denver went for Kerry, because of us.

I'd say we're a very deep purple if anything. The national party should take a close look at our local party to see how it's done.
