Forget the south... for just a second.
I'm so tired of all this "NOBODY GOIN ANYWHERE WITHOUT DA SOUTH!" talk. Yes, I'm a midwesterner by birth, and a northerner by trade - so maybe I'm biased, or I don't get it somehow... but for crying out loud... It's not ENTIRELY about the south.

The first job is to get as many people registered as we can. The second job is to fill a van full of people who think like us on November 4th, and drive them to the polls. The third job is to not be susceptible to our culture fear, or fear of the Rovebots.

THREE FUNDAMENTAL JOBS, folks. Let's get it done!

The other jobs include:
-a massive protest at the RNC in NYC
-an intelligence committee or independent investigation of 2001-2003 Iraq intel.
-the most beautiful, unified, triumphant and confident democratic convention ever (I can hear the "BRING IT ON" chants now, with John Kerry showing his scars. Wow.)
- go after and win over the 2000 green party voters
- make sure there's no election day funny business in the form of orange alerts and vote rigging/intimidating etc.
- party unity behind the ticket when it is decided, and until then - every democrat everywhere needs to make it 100% clear that Bush is a piece of SHIT.

November has never seen the kind of ELECTORAL TERROR we can bring to the polls. So stop being pessimistic. We can do this. WE CAN DO THIS.

1. I love it

I plan to be in NYC for the RNC with my best friend (he lives in Sunnyside. He is PISSED that the GOP is "desecrating my city")

However, Kerry showing any more skin than necesary will hurt us. He's not the most attractive man.

Edit for spelling.

2. No we can't
Sorry.

1. massive protests at RNC in NY? Do you have medical coverage? Did you know the insurance companies won't cover your costs if you get hit by a cop or otherwise injured during a demonstration? There are MASSIVE protests planned for NYC. Somebody is almost certainly going to get hurt or even killed before its over. No,we don't want to be there.

2. investigate the War? Why? We know the truth, we know the answers...what differance will that make?

3. our convention? Unified? Kerry is the nominee? Oh boy.

4. win over the Greens? With Kerry? Oh boy.

5. no funny business on election day? Shall we sprinkle fairy dust on the ballot machines to make sure they tell the truth?

6. unity? fine. Have our candidate chosen by a few thousand voters in two states, and the national news media? That doesn't seem likely to encourage much unity. More like what happened to Jimmy Carter when Ted Kennedy ran against him in the primaries.

Your intentions may be good, but you don't really have much chance of seeing your dreams come true. Right now it isn't even a done deal as to who the nominee will be.

Two months ago we were supposed to bow down and kiss Howard Dean's ring. Now we're supposed to bend down and kiss John Kerry's insider ass. Who really knows what the future will bring? Bob Novak? Tucker Carlson? Sean Hannity?

Who really knows...

3. pessimist!
1. It's for a fucking good cause. I'll take a bruising.
2. Put 'em on the stand and embarrass them. Make them admit they were wrong, they were liars.
3. Kerry is a lifetime democrat with a liberal record and is willing to fight for us. We should be proud and thankful to have such a great man on our side.
4. Greens are ABB, we are ABB.
5. We have to make any funny business immediately public and get the right people to look into it.
6. I agree the primary system is crap. We need a weighted system - based on swing/must win states. OR. A regional primary system (though not good for not-so-wealthy candidates.

I know we don't know the nominee. Could go the way of any of them. I'm not asking you to kiss anyone's ass, and especially not the inside of their ass. :P George W. Bush is the ONLY one who will need to be puckering up. We can't let the fear and pessimism cloud our goal - a democrat in the White House - for the good of America and the world for at least 4 years!

4. Great job mischaracterizing the debate
Edited on Thu Jan-29-04 02:48 AM by atre
I try not to base my vote on the candidates' supporters, but it's been awfully tempting to do so since Kerry's supporters here have at times seemed so condescending and dishonest.

It really does wonders for that democratic "unity" you're demanding.

6. Huh?
"- party unity behind the ticket when it is decided, and until then - every democrat everywhere needs to make it 100% clear that Bush is a piece of SHIT."

That was the kind of unity I asked for, not unity behind my guy, or your guy.

I don't know how I have been condescending or dishonest ever about another candidate in this forum. I just wanted to spell out a possible alternative recipe for electoral success. I guess us Kerry supporters need to take off their avator and signature when they want to rile up the party and make a non-candidate based argument? That's sad.

Based on the 2000 map, one could conceivably write off the South, and win -- pick up New Hampshire, or Ohio, or Missouri, or West Virginia, or

OR

Target one southern state like Florida, North Carolina, Arkansas or Louisiana...

But election map politics aren't much fun cuz it's done so much - the essential key is getting out our vote!

5. It's not all about the south
but if Gore had Deans relation with the NRA we wouldn't be discussing the issue would we?

And as a side note, when has any candidate EVER successfully run a campaign while totally blowing off the south?

7. Hasn't been done since what... Cleveland?
I know this.

But I was just saying that the south isn't everything, and I see that a lot on this forum.

8. I dont think the guns issue is what matters
Remember Clinton did well down in the south and he was far from being a NRA guy. Now I agree we cant blow off the south entirely. I dont think anyone would do that.

14. as a wife of a marine...
Kerry chanting "bring it on" really bothers me, btw. I understand it being said every now and then when you are trying to make a serious point. However, the day I heard Bush say those words, was a horrible day that I'd rather not remember, especially while watching folks smile and sing.

Sometimes I wonder just how many people that motivated to increase attacks on our boys...BUSH HAS TO GO!!!
