List of Rethug political STUNTS & DIRTY TRICKS in last 5 yrs
Edited on Tue Nov-01-05 04:05 PM by texpatriot2004
tricks. As I heard Frist whine about this "stunt" pulled by the Dems I can't help but think about the closed door voting in the middle of the night, or the trick they recently pulled with the energy bill - what was that?

They have been pulling these political stunts and playing dirty pool for 5 years now. Perhaps they need a reminder.

20. Did for 3 hours on the Medicare Drug Bill
And, what, 45-50 minutes on that recent legislation? Damn, can't remember what it was now. Hell...I was watching it live and I can't remember. It was post-DeLay indictment but he was still going around "Hammering" people to change their votes.

2. It's more in the House
Because they can get away with it. Under majority rule, Dems can't do anything about it.

The Energy bill fiasco, they had introduced a new rule that very morning, so they could get away with holding the vote open

14. Leahy was on TV right after the VP debate, and he said
that when Cheney would go to congress, he would meet exclusively with republicans. No democrats need apply.

Context: During the debate, Cheney had said he had never met and didn't know Edwards. (Sound familiar?) Leahy was asked, "Is that true?" Leahy replied (I'm paraphrasing), "Well, I can tell you that if he has met him, it certainly wasn't in congress, because when the VP comes to congress, he gathers up his republican cronies and holds closed-door meetings that democrats aren't allowed to attend."

That same evening, someone found a photo of Cheney and Edwards together at some "prayer breakfast". So much for Cheney's ability to tell the truth.

26. Not allowing a bill to impose the same labor standards to Saipan
, Mariana Islands as apply in the rest of the nation, to even come to the House floor.

This is one of those Abramoff, DeLay things. Horrid working conditions, low pay, forced prostitution, forced abortions if they get pregnant.

DeLay praised them, said they are great examples of what the Repubs stand for, and promised to never let the bill come to a vote.

Abramoff is the lobbyist who bilked Native Americans and Saipan of loads of money.

30. Mission Accomplished. Fake turkey.
Changing the wording of a bill proposed by a Democrat (so that it undercut the bill's purpose). Osama/Saddam pix in ads about Daschle and Cleland. Schiavo bill. Controlled and screened audiences everywhere. Hurricane Mulligan photo ops that delayed real work. Purple fingers. Purple Heart Band-aids. Rove and Hughes dressing in hunting gear for Halloween last year to mock Kerry's hunting trip. Sensenbrenner cutting mikes in the House. "Go fuck yourself" Cheney. Paid propagandists. Republican party jamming of GOTV phones in New Hampshire. "Snowflake babies." Stealing of Democrats' memos (for over a year). Those fucking cheesy backdrops. Cross-shaped lecterns at their convention. Etc.

39. That ridiculous stunt Frist and the Republicans pulled about Bush's...
judicial nominations. Where Frist and the Republicans pulled a 48 hour whine-a-thon about how Bush's judicial nominations weren't being "voted upon"...despite the fact that 92% of them WERE voted on and confirmed. It was when Senator Reid was reading, non-stop, from his book about the history of Nevada mining, I believe it was.

That stunt of Frist's and the Republicans was one of the most childish things I've ever seen.

The fake troops in Bush's new ad
by mithras the prophet
Thu Oct 28, 2004

Appropriately titled "Whatever It Takes", the new BC04 ad uses Bush's convention acceptance speech, stirring music, and images of dedicated troops and families in the heartland. As astutely noted by mikellanes in this thread:

It also uses Photoshopped images to turn a small crowd into a large one cover over Bush at a podium:

42. Drilling in ANWR
Edited on Sat Nov-05-05 02:35 AM by texpatriot2004
Despite years of control in Washington, George Bush and the Republican leadership in Congress have been unable to scare up enough support for opening the Arctic Refuge to oil drilling, so they have resorted to underhanded procedural maneuvers to give a handout to big oil at the expense of our environment and our future energy security.
From Kerry's statement on this 11/4/05
