Clean/Dark
Given current circumstances, I am wondering what posters' opinions are about a rapprochement between Clark and Dean. I know that the "Clark won't be Dean's VP/Dean never asked" debate was beaten to death. How do people feel about it now? (I am just curious, not trying to make an argument for or against.)

2. Neither will buckle
Not sure how it would work with 2 cooks.

Regardless, neither will buckle before it's too late. I hope they'll both stick it out as long as possible.

3. I'm not into alliances
I'm supporting my candidate. He gets to pick his own VP.

4. If it takes the power out of the hands of the party leadership
and puts it in the hands of the American people where it belongs, I'm all for it. I know Clark supporters and I will disagree, but it's my strong opinion that Dean must be at the top of the ticket but with the understanding that Clark gets to handle the mess in Iraq and the military as he wants to (within reason, of course). Clark has the military and defense experience, but realistically, Dean does have him beat in every other area necessary to run the country. And if the party leadership has their way, the only way either Dean or Clark will ever be president is if they bring their supporters together to beat the slobbering snots out of the yellow bellied fear mongering. Dean is a damn great governmental executive. He knows his stuff and gets things done. With Clark's military experience he already has, if he would accept VP and learn the rest of the stuff he needs under one of the best executives out there, he would kick ass from 2012 to 2020 and give us 16 years of US leadership to undo Bush's mess and get us back on solid footing. Kerry will give us more of the same and guarantee dissatisfaction and the desire for change in 2008, which will land us with Goddamned Jeb next!

6. Some Dean people seem to like this. No Clark people do.
I'm honestly perplexed by the desire among Dean supporters to try and get a "deal" going with the Clark supporters. Not too long ago a lot of them were calling Clark a Republican plant (and Dean himself called Clark a Republican, which is a cheap shot, if ultimately forgiveable).

I honestly think a lot of this talk from Dean people is a reaction to them suddenly seeing the brass ring swing to just beyond their grasp. Dean really did nearly have it sewn up and just blew it in the home stretch, altho I'd argue he'd planted the seeds for blowing it several weeks before Iowa.

Clark people know that their best states are just now coming up. We're worried about competition from Edwards more than anyone else, but we tend to like him as a candidate a bit more than Dean. Dean just doesn't appeal to Clark people, who tend to be more pragmatic in their approach to political activism than Dean people and more liberal than Dean himself is in economic politics.

But mostly, after months of getting nya-nya-nyas from Dean supporters, I can't help but feel like Dean people coming to us now, hat in hand, seeking a deal seems a bit like an ex-boyfriend coming back with flowers and chocolates and promises not to treat us like shit any more. I'll always love you, but I'm not inviting you in for a drink (just yet).

7. excellent point
if Dean can not win a primary in his neck of the woods with all his money and supporters, why would Clark think about boarding a sinking ship? It is obvious that the Dean supporters want him as VP and not Prez!

If my candidate was shopping for VP there are better choices out there for him to make, but as he said he is running for Prez.
