I'm honestly perplexed by the desire among Dean supporters to try and get a "deal" going with the Clark supporters. Not too long ago a lot of them were calling Clark a Republican plant (and Dean himself called Clark a Republican, which is a cheap shot, if
ultimately forgiveable).
I honestly think a lot of this talk from Dean people is a reaction to them suddenly seeing the brass ring swing to just beyond their grasp. Dean really did nearly have it sewn up and just blew it in the home stretch, altho I'd argue he'd planted the seeds for blowing it several weeks before Iowa.
Clark people know that their best states are just now coming up. We're worried about competition from Edwards more than anyone else, but we tend to like him as a candidate a bit more than Dean. Dean just doesn't appeal to Clark people, who tend to be more pragmatic in their approach to political activism than Dean people and more liberal than Dean himself is in economic politics.
But mostly, after months of getting nya-nya-nyas from Dean supporters, I can't help but feel like Dean people coming to us now, hat in hand, seeking a deal seems a bit like an ex-boyfriend coming back with flowers and chocolates and promises not to treat us like shit any more. I'll always love you, but I'm not inviting you in for a drink (just yet).
