Marc Maron just announced he HAS to leave Morning Sedition on 11/30
Edited on Tue Nov-01-05 06:35 AM by checks-n-balances
because of a Unilateral decision at the top *Danny Goldberg). He thanked everybody for their letters of support. I don't understand the reasons for this person wanting to get rid of Maron, but if you're a listener, you have one month to do so with Maron on the show.

It's sad that even AAR is run unilaterally. I'm sad and MAD about this.

6. I stand corrected. I do hate to see anybody loose their job. I meant
yippee for the show - not for Mr. Moran losing his job.

Obviously, I think the show will be much, much better with another co-host - IMHO.

21. Actually, the show will completely fall apart without Maron.
Just listen to any show when he was out of town and it was Riley and guests . . . a giant yawnfest.

22. At least we heard political talk...
I loved it when Maron was gone. Contrary to what many believe, Morning Sedition was not that funny.

26. I guess if you have no sense of humor, you wouldn't find it funny . . .
Edited on Tue Nov-01-05 08:41 AM by ET Awful
Hey, come to think of it, he mentions that fact himself occasionally.

Here's a little clue for you . . . because YOU don't laugh, doesn't mean it's not funny, it means YOU don't find it funny. Judging by the e-mail response AAR has gotten, you're in the minority.

36. Judging by the ratings I am NOT in the minority...
Also, I do have a sense of humor. I find a lot of the stuff on the show funny, but I'm not looking for comedy on my political talk show, I'm looking for political talk.

Maron = not funny to me
MS = funny some of the time

29. I agree. He makes it interesting and fun. He is intelligent and funny.
Without humor, politics can be a yawn, and if you want to attract new, young voters, you better not be boring..
There are other shows on AAR that are good, but none make me laugh too.I will miss Morning Sedition in its present format if Marc Maron is forced to leave. It will be a sad day.
I thing Danny Goldberg has not made any good decisions since his takeover of AAR.
Look for more good people to be leaving.

3.  I don't understand this, WTF?
I heard it too this morning on air from Mark, to my durprise and disappointment. Maybe a letter campaign to Goldberg showing support for Maron is in order?

This sucks.. Maron is perfect for the morning slot.

4. I'm not a fan. I have a 40 minute commute we do without radio but
our local affiliate is putting on a really good local guy in that time slot next Monday. I'll be tuning in again.

I liked the other Mark, but Maron got old BEFORE the election. Best wishes to him in his future endeavors, but he's no loss to AAR IMHO

OK, sometimes there is a slight 'frat-boy' feel to the show, but generally Marc and Mark make great chemistry together. Does anybody have an e-mail address for Danny Goldberg--want to register my dissent? Surya

They weren't just low in New York. They were low everywhere. Why do you think the San Francisco station dropped MS?

They had some good shows. He was very spirited and they really talked about the everyday person trying to get along. I used to record them and bring them to work. One of the few things that kept me at least somewhat sane at my last job...Well, I still like a lot of their programming and hopefully they'll bring in something new which gets a good start as well. Once the decision is made, as miffed as I am, I don't want to hold a grudge against the next person. Just my two cents.

They make your argument even less valid than it already is.

Who's more self righteous? The person who feels he's being treated unfairly by his employer, or the person (you) who claims unilaterally to speak for all people by saying "he's not funny"?

Maron attacks people that send him email everyday. Are you okay with him when he does it?

Also, how is he being treated unfairly by his employer? If the ratings for his show are too low, shouldn't his employer be allowed to make a change, or do you know something the rest of us don't?

24. Talkin' For Your Supper Ain't Easy
Been there, done that...

First...doing a daily radio show is fun and exciting, but it's also a nutcracker. It consumes your life, either in doing the show or preparing for it. You're "always on".

This is even more the case when it's a morning show. You have to be up most mornings at 3 or 4am...so forget about a social life and weekends are best left for catching up on sleep. Unless you're a real radio geek who lives and dies for being in a studio, it's very restricting...especially for a comedian like Maron who prefers to perform in front of a live audience, not in a studio.

Sounds like a changing of the guard in both Marc and AAR's fates. He was was of the originals at the network...went through the payless paydays and surely ate a bunch of dirt to help that network get up and rolling...but in return, he got a national platform; making him more visible and now enhancing his chances for greater work and opportunities.

Radio's not in very good shape right now. From one who loved the medium it's a shame to see what's happened to it and to many of the good people who used to dedicate their lives to what you heard. I guess they call it progress...

Peace...

28. I love Marc, and I emailed danny goldberg yesterday
Edited on Tue Nov-01-05 08:49 AM by ms liberty
I'm really pissed about it. I got pissed first because when they signed that damn exclusive deal with XM; it screwed me - I've got 2 home docks, 3 car docks, and a boom box...several hundred dollars worth of Sirius equipment. Because Sirius carried the whole line up from the beginning, we equipped everything (as birthday presents to each other!). Then I read the quote from danny goldberg, saying that it was a great trade off - talking about losing one and a half million listeners, who bought into Sirius just for AAR. I felt insulted. But I still listen via the web, when I can get on at least 45.2K - I'm on dial up.
But I love Marc Maron; Morning Sedition is my favorite show. Someone above commented that it got kinda juvenile frat boy, sometimes it does, but I enjoy it. BTW, I'm a white 45 year old woman!
So anyway, please everyone, if you're angry about this, email danny goldberg at dannyg@airamericaradio.com

And I'm a 60-year-old female listener! He sometimes produces moments of comedic brillance, tempered with true humanity. Sure, he may be a little full of himself sometimes, but then what performer isn't? I've written to Goldberg twice to express my displeasure. SG

Edited on Tue Nov-01-05 09:14 AM by BrklynLiberal
This is the second time they are cancelling a show I love.

Pretty soon AAR will no longer be on my presets. Very sad indeed.
It would seem that Danny Goldberg is not doing a very good job of keeping AAR on the very creative, exciting side of radio.
Alas, like all other things, it is going the way of all other businesses.
Instead of really being the voice of progressvie radio, it is now going to become the voice of boring, centrist, corporatist politics. It won't be long before the other exciting voices will be leaving, and all that will be left will be the voices like Springer and Franken.

All of you that cannot deal with the extremes...enjoy the middle of the road, because that is all you will be hearing on AAR very soon.
