How do you think Al Gore is feeling tonight?
He thought his endorsement would solidify the Party behind Howard Dean. I wonder if he wishes he could take back his endorsement.

4. I hope he doesn't feel foolish and irrelevant
because that the spin we are gonna hear. I think Gore should have held off on his endorsement. But its easy to play MMQB and the game is not yet over.

12. Gore should have held off his candidacy in 2000
In the past 50 years, or so, only one V.P. was elected to become a president, the first Bush, for one term.

And this is why Edwards should not be Kerry V.P. - hoping to run after their terms are over.

If one is away from the public eye, letting the president to be in the center of activity, one cannot, all of a sudden, appears as a capable executive. The road of a V.P. should be the one that Nixon ended up taking - take a break, get to be known on your own, then run.

5. Fear Gore
Edited on Thu Jan-29-04 12:32 AM by krkaufman
Under the (unwanted) hypothetical that Dean drops out, will the other candidates live in fear of a Gore endorsement? Or will they float false "Gore endorsement for <opponent_X> imminent" stories as sabotage?

Just kidding, Al. Love ya!

8. One word
Embarassed.

Just like that deranged half-smile on Harkin's face while he stood in the back of Dean during Dean's Iowa speech.

Only Dean's face was redder than Harkin's.

Ouch.

13. Or,
"The Smile Of Horror"

I had a supervisor who would get that smile on her face right before she was going to be reamed by her bosses.

the apex of his career will be SNL appearance after winning but not winning the presidency after helping preside over 8 years of Clintonian peace and prosperity.

15. I love him, but I hope he feels like dookie for a while. He deserves to.
The endorsement was a screw up from day one. There's a reason why elder statesmen at his level don't weigh into these deals in a true democracy. One stays an elder statesman by being a little hands off of the electoral business among the teeming masses. Picking candidates is our job, advising and guiding from within the corridors of power was supposed to be his job. Now he really can't do either. I honestly don't know if he realized that what he was doing was trying to play national boss. I hope he remembers the Dean spanking for a long long time.

16. That endorsement was his dumbest move since picking Lieberman-
as a running mate in 2000.

poor al...he just can't catch a break.

oh well, infinity is a long time- eventually, he'll get another shot at it- another lifetime, another universe.

18. I'll second that.
If he had picked a liberal VP, he wouldn't have had the Nader problem.

17. warm or cold
depending on how the global warming is blowing tonight.

Or more likely
"curses, foiled again !".

Or
"Tipper, I've just GOT to get another lucky Eight Ball to pick who I'm going to go with. First Lieberman, now Dean. Honeybunch, this one is broken.".

Or
"Tipper, should I have grown the beard back and worn a flannel shirt again ?"

21. Why do they come out in full force...
...when the other team is 'down?'

Actually, why do they think Dean is down when he's only 4 delegates behind Kerry... as if that's a big deal...
