I'm A 100%, Union Made, Italian-American and the Last Thing I Need
Edited on Mon Oct-31-05 08:26 PM by louis c
is F*cking Matt Drudge or Orin Hatch defending my heritage.

My grandparents were from Calabria and Naples (Italy, not Fla.) and they thought Mussolini was an asshole and I think Scalia and Alito are just as bad.

As a Union Rep, to think how anyone could quarrel with the Family and Medical Leave Act is beyond me. Imagine being against people who need UNPAID leave to care for a sick family member or to care for a new born. Some family values. Ya, their families, and only their's. Pro-Life, my ass. Pro-birth, says Alito, now back to work.

What the F*ck is an "originalist"? Someone who wants to interpret the constitution through its original intent. Maybe Alito believes that African-Americans should be counted as 3/5's of a person for the purpose of congressional districts, as stated in the original document. Delay would agree with that. As a matter of fact, I think that's how they counted the votes in the last two presidential elections.

When I need defending as an Italian-American, Matt Drudge and Orin Hatch will be the last ones I'd call. Save me your patronizing bull-shit. Who the F*ck do you think you're kidding?

What I need is defending as a hard working American. Matt, Orin, W., Dick, Scalia, Thomas, this new piece of shit, Alito and the rest of those F*cking Assholes are the ones we need defending against.

I wonder, per your comment, if anyone has tested the exit poll results against votes counted to see if the black vote really did come down 2/5 short.

Just an errent thought, makes me say "hmmm".

49. "slave" = 3/5th

There were very few free black citizens of the United States at that time. But they did not count 3/5th.

And did the extra representatives in congress accorded to slave states work for the benefit of the slaves? Or did they work to maintain their condition of slavery? Historical record clearly states the latter.

It would have been better for the slaves had they not been counted at all.

17. I am of 100% pure Italian heritage
As a kid, I spoke Italian, I lived Italian, I breathed Italian. I thought the whole world was Italian. Our radio spoke Italian. Our newspaper was Il Progresso. Gramma had a picture of FDR on her kitchen wall. He was later joined by a picture of JFK.

And through all that, from the first time I was aware, I thought the whole world was a Democrat.

No one could have imagined that a guy like this would be an Italian. No one could have imagined a guy like Orrin Hatch speaking out on our behalf.

Italian Americans, in cemetaries across America are spinning in their graves. Enough to measure on the Richter Scale.

51. I just wish AA pilots were hooked up with the Teamsters
Hubby is fighting the union "leadership" today who are trying to sell them down the river.

Ralph Hunter (APA president) is a washed up thug in bed with American Airlines management and attempting to feather his nest on the backs of pilots who have already given up between 25-40% of their pay.

Hunter won't even sign an agreement not to take a management job after his term.

The DOL is suing APA for a new election too.

Wish we could do that is GWB

And I meant it.

There are so few people around anymore that understand what Unions are about...Of course though there's always Billy Bragg....

There Is Power In A Union
by Billy Bragg

There is power in a factory, power in the land
Power in the hand of the worker
But it all amounts to nothing if together we don't stand
There is power in a Union

Now the lessons of the past were all learned with workers blood
The mistakes of the bosses we must pay for
From the cities and the farmlands to trenches full of mud
War has always been the bosses way, sir

The Union forever,defending our rights
Down with the blackleg, all workers unite
With our brothers and our sisters from many far-off lands
There is power in a Union

Now I long for the morning that they realise
Brutality and unjust laws cannot defeat us
But who'll defend the workers who cannot organise
When the bosses send their lackeys out to cheat us?

Money speaks for money, the Devil for his own
Who comes to speak for the skin and the bone?
What a comfort for the widow,a light to the child
There is power in a Union

The Union forever,defending our rights
Down with the blackleg, all workers unite
With our brothers and our sisters together we will stand
There is power in a Union

I kind of follow an accepted usage rule. Asshole and shit are now allowed on the public airways. F*ck, on the other hand, is not allowed.

Secondly, I am not personally offended if someone says shit or asshole in front of my wife or mother. On the other hand, F*ck does offend me in mixed company.

Therefore, for whatever subliminal reason, I break up the F-word with that asterisk.

I hope that makes sense to you. If it doesn't, I really don't give a F*ck.

38. I Said The Same Thing Earlier
I don't need to be defended against slurs by these morons.

Also, on the topic of "originalist". It's the most intellectually vacuous notion that has ever come up apropos the Constitution. What it basically says is that we must maintain consistency with the original intent of the framers, but we can only know what that is by INTERPRETING what they MEANT, as opposed to what's written down.

So, our way of knowing original intent is 100% interpretative, so we can take it literally! Yeah, you read that right. We can only follow the Constitution LITERALLY by INTERPRETING IT! That's so empty headed as to stagger.
The Professor

57. 50% Italian and 50% Sicilian, maybe we should explain
In Italy, there are still many Italians who do not consider Sicily as part of Italy, although, of course, it is.

It would be analogous to Puerto Rico. Many right-wing bigots consider anyone from Puerto Rico as foreigners. In fact, anyone born in Puerto Rico is as much a US citizen as anyone born in Kansas City.
