Where I Stand
Edited on Sun Oct-30-05 08:12 AM by SHRED
I posted this to another board of 'mixed' political stripes.
I am sure to get called a lot of names but this is me at this time.

A bit brief I know but too much and the simpletons lose interest.
What do ya think?

-----------------------------------

The Dems, in general, receive far more contributions from Labor Unions rather than Corporate big dollars.
The Corporates far out spend Labor and give most heavily to the Repubs overall.

Two examples:

Roy Blunt (R-MO)

Dennis Kucinich (D-OH)

Here in lies the problem as I see it.
The big corporate interests are truly the ones doing the arm twisting of our elected officials. These special interest groups are multi-national in interest and have no allegiance to anything but making their shareholders money.
They control the media and our government. Through the media (TV and radio and to a lesser extent newspapers) they constantly pump propaganda that government is bad, labor unions are bad, any beneficial social remedy that shifts away from their bottom line is bad such as a Universal Health Payment Plan or Publicly funded Elections, or Public controlled counting of our votes. All these ideas get labeled "Socialism" and the politically ignorant nod their heads and do not realize for instance that a Universal Health Payment Plan would benefit especially small to medium businesses. It would help those who would like to be entrepreneur by taking the health cost risk way down. You could afford to retire early with a reasonable pay system. The health profession would remain private and the health insurance industry would be pared way down. They have failed us.

Publicly funded elections and regaining control of vote counting from private special interest's (Diebold) are critical.
A set amount of funds and air time would alloted for each party. That way the best candidate instead of the best 'connected' would be brought forth. All big money influence would be taken out. Instead of the lobbyists it would be the citizens that are served by their government.

It's time we the people regained OUR government from the multi-national corporate interests.
The true definition of fascism is when private and public interests merge. The people are left behind. We are witnessing this. Just look at the Energy Bill, Prescription Bill, Bankruptcy Bill, a tax structure that favors outsourcing and offshore shelters, etc...

I don't give a rat's ass if I am called a 'Socialist' or 'Communist' because these are just emotional labels thrown out by those who have not taken the time to research these issues and rely on the corporate mouthpiece, the mainstream media via talk shows, etc...fot their information sourcing.

===========================

EDITED: for spelling.

1. The only thing I would argue is the newspapers.
I think they are just as bad as any of the other media. I know my local paper is owned by Cox, who happens to own the local cable system as well. The majority of America's newspapers are also owned by corporate chains.

Nice piece, I suggest you make the cretins explain just what is so bad about socialism, five will get you ten that they cannot.

2. good point
My local paper is owned by the Copely family which are HEAVY Repub donors.

I was thinking overall. Some of my best, most detailed info, has come from the NYT, WashPost, Boston Globe, etc...

Thanks for the ciritic! I will take your advice and get them to please explain the "evils" of Socialism. We already have Corporate Welfare.
