So of course he has flaws.

3. what i have heard
This is only what I have heard - not that I agree with them:
1) he looks French (so does Sophie Marceau, and I don't think many would complain about her...)
2) he's boring and long-winded / too intellectual. Somewhat true - he is an acquired taste when speaking.

4. Just the stuff you've heard.
This Boston Globe series dishes all the dirt. They've always been a pretty anti-Kerry paper.

5. He has plenty of flaws and if
he becomes the nominee, the media and Rove will be sure you know all about each and every one. No flaw left behind. The chimp on the other hand has no flaws - or so the media would have you believe.

6. well...
Doesnt put his weith or votes when the going gets tough, voted FOR the Iraq War resolution, FOR the Patriot Act, FOR the 87 Billions. He is an insider and his ties to the current system are such that he wont pull through when needed. Rove can package that and use that to diheartnen potntial voter and paint him as being a fake.

11. 1991 GW vote
he voted against it, right? Do you think the Rethugs will paint him as flip-flopping since he voted for IWR?

Any legislation Kerry has sponsored that the Rethugs will try and spin into a liability?

16. The Democrats & Pigs have different anti-Kerry strategies.
Edited on Wed Jan-28-04 09:21 PM by poskonig
The GOP plans to smear him as a super-liberal Dukakis elitist. Kerry wanted to reduce the size of the CIA, but there isn't much to bash him on, so they'll stick with the slime.

Democrats against Kerry have an opportunity to attack him as being a waffler on the war issue. "He voted wrong twice" or something like that. This is risky though, if Kerry counterattacks by pimping his defense creds and armed forces service.

9. yes, he always votes against the ACLU's recommendations
Edited on Wed Jan-28-04 09:09 PM by teevee99
on liberty/privacy issues like:

wiretapping, welfare reform, internet censorship, Gov't funding of religious institutions, National ID system, Counter Terrorism, Medical Privacy, Campaign Finance Reform and Immigration.

He has voted on these issues in direct contrast with what the ACLU recommends, often voting on the same side as lieberman, santorum and ashcroft.

17. my facts are fine.
I shouldn't have used the word "always", but still, he voted against the ACLU on the issues I listed.

By the way, do you call his voting with the ACLU only 60% of the time a good thing?

I have concerns about Kerry's views on privacy, civil liberties and wars. and I have reason to do so.

12. I'll support any of the Democratic nominee against the chimp but...
He does have a boring, long-winded speaking style. I live in Georgia where I think he may get a chilly reception.

14. Yes, he has many flaws
but the media will be all fluffy bunnies about Kerry until he has it sewn up at which time they will savage him worse than any candidate in history.

They must first annoint the sacrifical lamb before offering it up on the altar to Bushgod.

15. I'll bite. I've tried to give a fair argument for him

I think all members of Congress have a blind side because they are often removed, if only slightly, from the impact of the legislation they pass. Governors are closer to the people who they serve. House members, more than Senators even.

That said, I think John Kerry has demonstrated in his 30 yrs. of public service a determination to listen, learn and act. I trust his instincts. I like the fights he has waged.

You know, of course that smear attacks will reflect more on the attacker than on the intended.

18. He has a long voting record
That can be cherry-picked by anyone to find flaws.

But his overall record is quite liberal. That will be an asset to some and a flaw to others.

But I don't see why liberals would have any problem with him.

19. Well, Pubbies will try to "Gore" him.
In fact it has already started. The pubbies try to make it sound as if Kerry has tried to pass himself off as Irish - though he has never claimed that - it is just that people assume he is Irish because of his name and because he is a Dem from Mass. I am sure there is lots more of this trivial shit they will try to use to paint Kerry as someone who lies to pander to audiences. (Look who is talking, btw - the Shrub has to be the most untruthful president ever).

I don't know if they will have the balls to try to go after Kerry on his Vietnam War record - it has great potential for severe backlash given the shrub's sorry national guard experience. Certainly they won't do it directly - will try to use whispering campaigns, as they did to McCain in SC in 2000. The backlash potential is there as well, particularly if they manage to piss off McCain for dissing Kerry's Vietnam record and it reminds him of what the shrub minions did to him. On reflection I do believe Kerry is the last candidate Rove wanted to face. A genuine war hero up against AWOL George. I can hardly wait.
