1. Harold Ford Jr.
Interesting thing, I thought he was too young. But then on Crossfire Begala asked him if he'd accept and Ford try to spin around it. If he WERE too young he'd just say "no i'm too young" but his birthday must be up soon or some reason he'd be up for the job.

He'd be my pick.

Or Clark if not him.

23. Ford? No way!
First of all, he's way too young. I don't even think he can legally run for vice president. Second, he's been supporting Bush for years because he wants to appear "moderate" for the Tennessee voters that he'll need when he runs for Senate. Did you see him applauding for Bush at the SOTU speech? It was awful. He wasn't just applauding at the usual times when both parties applauded, but at times when Bush called for more tax cuts etc. Half the time it looked as if Ford was the only Democrat applauding.

And I hate to say it, but I don't think the country is ready for a black vice president.

6. I'll tell you one thing
If Kerry does not pick Edwards, I guarantee he will lose.

Edwards as Veep is his one and only chance.

Kerry should choose someone who:

-is from a key battleground state
-is someone slightly to the right of him
-will add to Kerry instead of being so different to him that it takes away

I don't see how Edwards, Graham, Clark or Gephardt can help Kerry.

At this point I would go with someone like Florida senator Bill Nelson, who is a former astronaut and very respected on both sides of the isle, a centrist, from a key battleground state. I think he would compliment Kerry very well. I hadn't considered Nelson until I heard his name thrown around today. It would be the "toughguy-veteran-astronaut-experienced-great American" ticket vs "unelected fraud-chicken hawk-AWOL-Haliburton-Enron" ticket.

10. slightly to the right?
That's right, Kerry should make the same mistake Gore did. Picking someone to the right just kills all enthusiasm about the candidate.

14. So they
will vote for Bush??? I don't think so.

Dems are so pissed. THis isn't 2000 when people didn't really get the ramifications of reaarranging the furniture in the White House.

I will vote for my ugly runt kitty before I vote for Bush.

15. Kerry is viewed to be liberal-to-moderate
The ticket has to be balanced out with a centrist (not a conservative). Nelson is a centrist like Bob Graham, but adds more to a Kerry ticket, IMO. Nelson fits in with the whole "great American" theme with his biography (astronaut, senator) and is from a key battleground state.

11. definitely Edwards
a perfect 1-2 combo--proven Vietnam hero, young VP vs * the sock puppet, and the evil mastermind Unca Dick Cheney...sounds like a winner to me!

12. Cleland is actually a pretty good choice
and will be on his short list for sure, should he get the nomination. And although Georgia is considered by some to be solid-south, it is really a swing state and Cleland could help swing it.

Florida isn't competative for Kerry unless Graham is his vp, it's that simple

24. I'd like to see:
Kerry/Graham or Kerry/Clark

I don't think Edwards has the needed "gravitas" to take on Cheney in a debate.
