My dad finally kicked my fundie sister out of the house
As you know both my parents are strong Christians - my mom is a life long dem - my dad voted for Senator Kerry this year after after the swifties slimed him. Anyhow you guys also know what a repug evangelist my sister is. She usually takes shot at me once a month but today she went overboard.
She put on her snow white - actually muddy white- wagon not only a choose life license plate but a big bold bumpersticker that says - "Remember your baptisim and kill a liberal"
Anyhow my old man and mom finally confroted my sister and said that if she doesn't go get some help, they'll stop funding her ass for the chrisitian college that she's going too, My old man and said that she's got to find a new place to live. Anyhow she stormed out of the house about two hours ago and we haven't heard from her since.
The time frame for this is about eleven thirty. Note I hope my sister
does choose help she used to be such a nice person. But lately she's been going further off the deep end.

Her behavior actually warrants being kicked out of the home? Does she have other resources?

I'm sure there's info I don't have, so don't react too harshly to my questions.

My hubby and I went to Mount Vernon Nazarene, and if I remember right, we played Trinity in sports. I ran into some Trinity students in some stuff I was in. Those Calvinists. ;)

I'm so sorry she's going there. Frankly, those schools are scary. Many come away hating the place and church and anything to do with Christianity after suffering through. Others, and it sounds like your sister's one, come away even more out in right field, having never actually learned to think critically or question their beliefs. I'm so very sorry.

Be thankful she's not at Bob Jones--even worse.

Strict fundamentalism or adherence to any particular belief can be a sign of a OCD spectrum disorder. Before you laugh and say "of course it is" check this out..

81. Of course it does.
Those schools encourage kids to report on each other, have moles in all the main peer groups, and only hire profs who agree to sign belief statements (and then enforce those if a prof seems to be straying). If you think I'm kidding, I'm not. I went to Mount Vernon Nazarene, and we were in the same league as Trinity. It's probably not much different.

57. Is she over 21?
Maybe I missed it in the other posts about her, but the Student Policies for that college state that any student under 21 has to live in the dorms if they leave home to go to school. She may be facing a tough time ahead with that.

Frankly, I didn't see much else in there that indicated anything TOO horrible for a faith based college (unlike places like Bob Jones!) They can't have Cable TV in the dorms, no porn, and no booze--but that really is a big difference from places like Bob Jones where they won't even allow contemporary Christian music on campus...

I dunno, Danca, I'm sorry your family is in such a big hoo-haw, but I tend to think you are right that it is a matter of her friends coloring her views rather than the college. Maybe this will give her the needed wake up call.

Good luck!

Thank you for the welcome! I'm glad to be here. :toast: So the shop that made the bumper sticker has Biblical quotes all over their signs? It always amazes me when so-called "Christians" go around calling for death and violence against those they disagree with, when the whole message of Christ was peace, love and forgiveness. The neo-cons are really giving Christianity a bad name. It's sad. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about your sister. It sounds like she's going through a troubled time. 31. I would probably follow the same thing thinking
While I have an inklin as to where that sticker came from I have no proof. I will mention it too my old man if he thinks he should contact the police or not. I think that my mom and dad percieved it as a real death threat and that's what triggered the get out your house response.
Thank you for you concern, this is a bad situation all around.
Peace to you.

she finds some help because she has been poisoned.

If she can't understand that encouraging killing people is totally against the teachings of Jesus, then I think she is so brainwashed that she needs a real intervention.

39. If the "christian college" is condoning her behavior...
then it would be best that your parents not fund her college education.

Is she receiving her education from a college connected with her church?

83. It's one of the Calvinist schools.
When I was in college, those were actually more liberal than mine (scary thought, I know). It's not so much that the college is encouraging it but that the whole environment encourages this kind of thinking.

Hopefully, she'll wake up a year or so from now and wonder what the hell happened. Most of my classmates woke up by graduation and were just marking time until we could all escape.

Last time I looked it was. So how can you remember your baptism and kill a liberal? Disgusting. This is what is scary. :\

50. i don't understand the denial
I mean, when one or two of your friends or family thinks you have weird ideas and have "changed", then it's likely THEM and not you. But, when your whole family, and all of your friends are telling you there's a problem, there's a problem!

I've actually heard people say things like "I don't know what happened - all of my friends all of a sudden became jerks."

So I hope your sis realizes that having her family not able to tolerate her anymore is a sign that SHE has a problem, not everyone else.

55. I hope so too
I think it was a strong and admirable thing for the parents to do. I'm sure that was hard as well but I wouldn't tolerate that either. Especially since I myself am a liberal. :\ It's really scary to think people out there who want to kill me because I'm a liberal. Do they even know what a liberal is or are they just going by their brainwashed mentality? That's what I wonder.

62. a kind of scary added aspect of this is that christian dogma says that
the one time killing is 'appropriate' is in a so-called just war.

that threat underlines their thinking of this as a war against us.
and it really is a civil war now, against us.

scary.

Peace!

It's starting to click in now because we didn't have problems like this until she started going there. I mean she was always conservative but not a nut case.

84. Is there required chapel?
I know Calvin didn't have required chapel like we did, but does Trinity? That might be part of the problem if she actually believes the crap she's hearing there.

I have an image in my head of Darth Cheney saying "Execute Order 66!" to all the troops, ordering them to kill all the liberals in America.

76. Was the mis-spelling of "baptism" your typo or did her bumper sticker
actually read "Remember your baptisim and kill a liberal"?

That's certainly Freeper-level spelling there, boy howdy!

ps- I, too, hope your sister gets help. It's always difficult when a family member goes astray. Hang in there.

Is it just a phase? Some of the nicest people I know were once fundies in their youth. They eventually saw the error of their ways. So maybe there is hope yet for your sister.

It is never easy to finally say enough to your child. I know they're dying inside. Please give them a hug from me. Sometimes being right is cold comfort when you've had to let go of your child.
