What IS the * administration’s mission in Iraq?
Why can’t they settle on a bona fide reason to be there and spend billions of dollars and priceless lives for what?

For me, the Plame outing cuts to the heart of that matter because they DON’T want us (we the “quaint” people) to know why our military has been dispatched to their doom in Iraq. Once again, I must inquire “for what?”

Never mind the * administration’s total disregard for human rights in the process, it belies a larger agenda for which they do not want to be on the record.

5. This has been an impt. question all along . . .
I've run out of alternative hypotheses other than: a looting (oil included) opportunity, speciously buttressed by various emotional or other irrational rationalizations.

6. Can you believe that the official US government answer
is that we are providing and protecting the freedom of the Iraqi people and maintaining stability in the region?

The trouble is that this doesn't square with the justification that was given at the start. All that has been forgotten.

7. Oh, why does there always have to be a mission.
It just seemed like a good idea, you know? What with the trifecta and all?

:sarcasm:

9. The real mission is still a secret
probably hidden among all the BS excuses we've been given.

But, who cares? Who gives a shit about Iraq? We have no business being there.

10. This Administration's "Mission" in Iraq
Hmmm, let's see...in no particular order:

o Vendetta against Saddam Hussein for turning on Poppy/CIA.
o Unmonitored control of oceans of Iraqi oil.
o Establish torture (Abu Ghraib/Gitmo. etal.) as de facto tool of United States' policy and give the finger to Geneva Convention, U.N. and all those other pussy, liberal nuisances.
o Totally unsubtle internal Bush family psychodrama of unstable, immature, loser son "finishing" & one-upping Poppy's leaving the first Gulf war unfinished (complete with triumphal costume dressup as toy soldier on the infamous "Mission Accomplished" propaganda video.)
o Establishment of a military base/permanent presence in the middle of the Middle East (Ground Zero for OIL).
o Convenient, onsite location for "bringing democracy"/launching war on Iran, Syria, Russia (if Putin suddenly turns up one day on our enemy list.)
o Proximity to all that Saudi Oil and ready to turn on them if they get "uppity".
o Proximity to every other drop of oil in every other Emirate, Kingdom & Sheikdom in the Middle East.
o Endless, no-bid, unmonitored, zillion-dollar war contracts to Bush administration crony corporations like Halliburton.
o Degrade, destroy & gut the Constitution and our system of checks & balances by going to war as an imperial Presidency, totally unbeholden to Congressional oversight or advice & consent.
o Saying, "Fuck you!" to the rest of the world. "We are the United States and we can do whatever we want."
o The list goes on and on.

11. I still think it was so Bush could ride in on a white horse.
The country was there and they needed some thing for the election as Bush got in so odd the first time. So little thought seemed to be giving to how to go to war I can not think it was any thing but a fast trick they were going to pull off. Bush would be the hero. Now they have spent 5 years and billions trying to make it work.It did for the last election. That Congress gave him this power is just beyond me. They are to look out for us if the president will not.

12. the US mission in Iraq is, and always has been, two-fold . . .
1. to control the oil, and

2. to establish a permanent presence and base of operations in the region

the reason for the latter being US intentions to similarly invade and control other nations in the area in order to expand and solidify American hegemony . . .
