Kay Bailey Hutchinson Hypocrisy
From the impeachment hearings of President Clinton:

The edifice of American jurisprudence rests on the foundation of the due process of law. The mortar in that foundation is the oath. Those who seek to obstruct justice weaken that foundation, and those who violate the oath would tear the whole structure down.

Every day, thousands of citizens in thousands of courtrooms across America are sworn in as jurors, as grand jurors, as witnesses, as defendants. On those oaths rest the due process of law upon which all of our other rights are based.

The oath is how we defend ourselves against those who would subvert our system by breaking our laws. There are Americans in jail today because they violated that oath. Others have prevailed at the bar of justice because of that oath.

What would we be telling Americans -- and those worldwide who see in America what they can only hope for in their own countries -- if the Senate of the United States were to conclude: The President lied under oath as an element of a scheme to obstruct the due process of law, but we chose to look the other way?

I cannot make that choice. I cannot look away. I vote `Guilty' on Article I, Perjury. I vote `Guilty' on Article II, Obstruction of Justice.

I ask unanimous consent an analysis of the Articles of Impeachment be printed in the Record.

In regards to this White House and her new opinion of perjury:

I certainly hope that if there is going to be an indictment that says something happened, that it is an indictment on a crime and not some perjury technicality where they couldn’t indict on the crime so they go to something just to show that their two years of investigation were not a waste of time and dollars.

I'm sure this was a fundamental change of opinion, not a convenient change of partisan tactics. ;)

2. She's my senator
Edited on Tue Oct-25-05 03:35 PM by AValdoux
I e-mailed her today. My letter basically said she made a fool of herself sunday. Her hypocrisy was quickly caught for the world to see. Also she should represent her constiuents & country rather than the republlican party. I asked her if she were from a foreign country, would she work with a US agent if you thought their indentity or yours would be disclosed in the future for political gain?

5. Well, She's From Your State
but she's not YOUR Senator. There are many good Democrats that you could claim from other states. That's what I do at least. ;)

4. Well, I don't live in Tx. anymore, so I didn't write to her, but
in THIS case, the MSM did it for us! I didn't see ANY broadcase that didn't reference her comments...even our local news here in Ga.

I keep wondering how many top Pubs reamed her out over that appearance????

6. She's apparently OD'd on Mary Kay makeup.
Scrape a few layers off and she'll come to her senses.

7. Today, a Houston Chronicle editorial called her out...
in 1999 when the U.S. Senate tried and ultimately acquitted President Bill Clinton after he was impeached by the House, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas had no doubt about the seriousness of the alleged crime. Clinton stood accused of lying under oath and obstructing the investigation of his relationship with intern Monica Lewinsky.

"What would we be telling Americans," Hutchison asked, "if the Senate of the United States were to conclude: The president lied under oath as an element of a scheme to obstruct the due process of law, but we chose to look the other way. I cannot make that choice. I cannot look away."

As news accounts indicate special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald might be preparing to bring perjury and obstruction of justice charges against Bush administration officials involved in the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame, Hutchison is taking a different view. Appearing on Meet the Press Sunday, she seemed quite willing to look away from such violations this time around.

8. She's *my* Senator
From the moment I heard her voice yesterday morning on the radio while driving to work I felt myself composing a terse email to her. All day it brewed. Round about lunch time I clicked over to her website and let her have it. Yes, it felt good!

10. I asked but got no answer about why..
she has gotten so much TV coverage in the past. My theory: She appears as a nice grandmotherly persona, simple and honest, so the RW Corp Media give her airtime to catapult the Neo Fascist talking points.
