Today... October 25, 2005... Paul Wellstone Died - Rosa Parks Died
I just want to make note that 2 of our nation's most dedicated activists died on the same day!

These two people deserve such gratitude for what they always tried to promote. The caring of Human Beings and how to make life better for those less fortunate! I can't say enough about the respect I had/have for both of them.

However, I almost feel jinxed... while I'm not seeking acknowledgment nor do I even recognize birthdays much anymore... today happens to be the day I was born. I'm beginning to wonder if I want to see what NEXT year will bring!

October 25th seems NOT to be one of the Nation's happier days!

But I do want thank Paul Wellstone AND Rosa Parks for their contributions and leadership in their quest for JUSTICE!!

I guess this is what you'd call an "Emily Litella" moment.

2. Blessings to you on your birthday.
Today is my dad's birthday. He would have been 100. He died a few days before his 86th birthday. I had forgotten that Paul Wellstone also died on this date. I join you in thanking him and Rosa Parks for the positive contributions they made to their country. Let us always honor them. I commend you for your commitment to make life better for others, especially those less fortunate. Keep your eye on the prize and continue to meet your goals. Next year will be better because of you!

Again--blessings!

4. Thank You Very Much...
I just felt compelled to make note of these 2 people.

As for Rosa Parks... I thought it was early this AM... Regardless, while never being confrontational, she had such depth, determination and conviction of what she believed. And not surprisingly ended up working with John Conyers, one of the still great Americans of today.

I had decided a couple of weeks back to make mention of Paul Wellstone, and wanted to remember him today. What is truly sad is that there are STILL questions swirling around what REALLY happened! If I'm not mistaken, he would have been the same age as I, had he lived. Not that he was born today, but only that he has passed away on October 25th.

Thank you again, it wasn't for me I posted... just commenting on these two wonderful people. We need so many more of them, and they are missed!

And you father passed away on this day too??? Kind of like the Ides of March or something!

5. And thank you. You write very eloquently and movingly.
I'm so glad you are a part of DU. I will look forward to your future posts!

My father actually died on Oct. 14, 11 days short of his 86th birthday. As I mentioned, yesterday was his 100th birthday and I used to think he would live that long. Even had a special "Century Birthday" card picked out for him while he was still with us. Talk about planning ahead!

I just heard John Conyers on Thom Hartmann's show. You are right--he's one of the great Americans we're privileged to have among us. I hope he stays safe. I am one of those who questions just what happened to Paul Wellstone. How blessed we were to have him and how wonderful that his legacy lives on.

Take care!

6. Oh... I See I Got It Wrong!
It was nice of you to compliment me, however to my great dismay... and something that I beat myself over the head with, I see that I wrote too quickly! I hate to make mistakes!

I simply CAN'T stand it when I go back a re-read what I've posted and see ERRORS!! I really AM compulsive about this. I WAS in a hurry though because I live down here in Florida and Comcast had gone out. I saw that it was back on and wanted to post. Then it went on the blink again!! Unfortunately, for quite some time so I was unable to get online.

Comcast is the ONLY high speed available where I live so I have no choice. I need to use high speed because my mother-in-law lives with us and she is now 93! She has Alzheimer's, but we've been taking care of her for over 6 years now.

I have run into older people who are doing quite well and it's wonderful that they can enjoy the longevity. Having said that and because of the Alzheimer's factor, I'm not sure I would want to live to a ripe old age with a debilitating and distressing illness such as Alzheimer's.

She really doesn't have what one could call "quality of life" and I wonder what she would think if she was still able to relate. Physically she is doing fine, but mentally... well let's just say she's extremely challenged. She can no longer care for herself in any way and has no control of "other" personal capabilities. If you get my drift... it's Depends all the time! Total loss of control all the time.

However, we will never put her in a Nursing Home... I have a problem with many of them.

Thanks again, and I'm sure we'll run into each other again. Sorry that you didn't get to celebrate that 100th!
