The Slurring of Fitzgerald Begins
By: cones · Section: Diaries

I guess this was kind of inevitable, but it's still disappointing to see and hear.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/wn_report/story/358657p-305630c.html

"As the White House and Republicans brace for possible indictments in the CIA leak probe, defenders have launched a not-so-subtle campaign against the prosecutor handling the case."

""He's a vile, detestable, moralistic person with no heart and no conscience who believes he's been tapped by God to do very important things," one White House ally said, referring to special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald."

This is a brutal personal attack and slur on Fitzgerald.

Why the need for personal attacks? Why attack his morality or religious beliefs? Why attack his relationship with God?

I hope this was simply one rogue "White House ally", and not indicitive of a more coordinated effort. We shall see in the days and weeks should indictments be handed down.

And if the WH is dumb enough to embark upon such a strategy (anything's possible post-Miers, eh?), I don't think it'll find a lot of supporters among the Right at large. For instance, Michelle Malkin, no shrinking violet when it comes to defending the right from real or perceived injustice, has come down hard against any such a move.
(I am kinda curious about the "White House ally"; but I assume Fitzgerald's successfully gotten after any number of people previously, some of whom could be construed as "White House allies".)

Amen to this. By: Crank

There are genuinely bad prosecutors out there (think: Ronnie Earle). And there are good prosecutors who make bad decisions, and we can criticize their decisions without personally demonizing them. The reflex to attack the prosecutor in any scandal is a terrible one for the administration of justice.

and this on Kay Baily Hutchinson:

NY Daily News isn't all that credible in my book, and this is still thinly sourced. So, as you say, we'll wait and see.
BTW, absolutely loved KBH's "perjury technicality" line. Truly priceless.

Ugh! Thanks KBH - that's just what we needed.
Priceless, indeed. You cannot put a price on that sort of political idiocy - if you're the opposition, that is.

4. And what's wrong with being "moralistic"?
Of course, the answer is that rethugs have no concept of morals.

And what's wrong with a person's thinking that they have been tapped by God?

After all, their own Fearless Chimp think's HE'S been tapped by God.

5. When I had to face people in my community who were breaching
their fiduciary duties to the Association and using their board positions to usurp common grounds, you know what they said about the opposition? It's jealousy. That's what it is.

This has happened because we value success over everything else. Money cleans everything. It's time to pull their feet down to the ground.
