Here's an idea. Iran-Contra revisited since some of the same
cast members are present in Treasongate. If not revisited outright, surely parts of it were relevant to the present matter. I am curious if this scandal that was never resolved but was researched and investigated will factor in at all.

2. Ritter on CSPAN pointed out that the cold war neoconnivers
thrived under Raygun. I remember the alarm over Raygun's lack of over sight of his lackey's that led to Iran Contra and public concern over a shadow govt. in Wash. D.C.

At least Raygun had the cajones to clean house and bring Jim Baker in. Shrub can't let go of his team he would be lost and he can't call on the old guard because the old line cons do not approve of his war.

Ritter said that after the cold war ended the same shadow forces turned their attention to the middle east.

There was a foreign policy in place in less than a year after 9-11 and you know that shrub is not the policy genius as was Big Dog Bill.

Someone had things all laid out for him and he fell for it.

But like Iran-Contra failed, and nearly cost Raygun his second term in office, shrub is now facing a bigger problem and living up to the second term jinx that people speak of.

I bet the neoconnivers hang shrub out to dry and blame every failure on him, it will be very lonely at the top when they turn on him.

4. Here's a link for you
BCCI was used in the sale of arms to Iran (& almost certainly in the funding of the contras). Ghorbanifar (of recent Leeden-Niger fame, plus Curt Weldon FWIW) is a key figure here.

BCCI was also used - amoungst other things - by Pakistan (along with the Saudi's who were keen to see an 'Islamic Bomb') to facilitate development of the bomb (to which the US turned a blind eye in return for support in Afghanistan). This would ultimately lead to the nuclear proliferation of the so-called AQ Khan network.

The Clinton administration imposed sanctions on Pakistan because of their nuclear activity (Bush dropped these about a week after 9-11 in return for support in the 'war on terror') and from all I've read, was genuinely concerned about nuclear proliferation. Nobody knows for sure, but I would assume that Plame's work was aimed in part at dismantling what Regan/Bush had let build up -- that is, the Saudi funded Islamic bomb network (which had got out of control - ie North Korea).

Of course, you've also got the 'Safari Club' - with peeps like Prince Turki (after a brief stint over here) now replacing Bandar as US Ambassador and Saddam facing the chop - but as with other cold-war groups ('le Cercle' for eg which mixed ex Mi6, DGSE & CIA chiefs with Italian fascists) there's barely anything known for sure as very, very few people have talked.
