Hackett Supporters Please Help

I just noticed an ad on Dailykos which has a picture of Paul Hackett and Sherrod Brown and purports to be for ActBlue. The ad is asking for donations for the Ohio General Election. When you click on the ad it goes to a Sherrod Brown donation script.

This is simply deceptive and if the Charities Fraud Bureau were open this late on a Saturday night I would file a complaint.

Does anyone have contact information by phone with ActBlue or an account with Dailykos to alert people to this deception?

I sincerely hope this is a glitch not a premeditated deceptive practice.

1. No
The link goes to a general election fund for Ohio. It's here on DU, too, and probably all liberal Dem sites.

2. Nope...it's a job application form, not a donation solicitation...chill!
Remember...Sherrod's on our side too.

7. It's a glitch on Kos
That job application was what was behind the most recent Brown ad.

8. The OP is right about Kos
It has Brown's job application from the old ad instead of the GE fund from the new ad.

Different from what is on DU and DemBloggers.

It's a glitch.

11. Agreed, a glitch

I am just tired of election glitches. Messages were sent and apparently they were successful. The link is now goes to ActBlue not Brown.

14. I spoke to soon, maybe not such a glitch
There is a furious argument on dailykos regarding this issue.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/10/23/13416/187

I think the fact there is no disclosure that the ad is from a candidate committee needs to be rectified.

I thought that ActBlue paid for the ad replacing the Sherrod Brown ad ran its course. I was wrong.

Apparently the ads are being paid for by Sherrod Brown's campaign without disclosing that fact. Disclosure of paid ads by a campaign are the basis of all campaign finance theory and law.

I believe this is a campaign finance violation. I could be wrong and appreciate expert input.

Also, is the Brown campaign mining information from anyone who links to the ActBlue page but does not contribute?

10. the ActBlue site links to Hackett's site but not to Brown's
but I don't think it's a plot between Hackett and ActBlue, I think they just haven't added Brown yet.

13. What's really annoying about the ad is
that they placed a photo of a smiling Hackett so as to suggest Hackett is looking at Brown and approving of him. If anything, Hackett is super-pi$$ed at Brown right now, and with very good reason.
