As soon as tomorrow morning, the House of Representatives will consider a Republican amendment to permanently slash funding for basic health care, nutrition and education services for the poor. The budget proposal already calls for $35 billion in cuts, but top Republicans want to push it up to $50 billion. Meanwhile, the same budget proposal calls for $70 billion in new tax breaks, largely for the wealthy.1

It's reverse Robin Hood politics—robbing the poor to pay back the rich.

So today we're aiming to send 50,000 personal messages to Congress in 24 hours—round II of our emergency budget campaign. We're asking them to vote against the expanded cuts this Thursday, and oppose any budget package that slashes services for the poor while handing out tax breaks to the rich. That's what I did. Here's my original personal message to my dear, dear representative Henry Hyde:

Henry Hyde: Please don't hurt my mother who lives on $600 disability and has diabetes and is mentally disabled! Cutting medicaid is a sin. Think about your legacy. Think about what the Jesus would do.
I BEG YOU SIR! MY MOTHER IS VERY SICK AND MEDICAID IS HER ONLY LIFELINE! Please please please please oppose these draconian cuts.

2. The Medicaid cuts would be gruesomely cruel

I know people in Tennessee with disabled relatives who are barely getting by on $500, and with a recent edict reducing their prescriptions to only FOUR (4) prescriptions a month, they're having to pay something like $200 out of pocket to get whatever else the program doesn't cover. There are many drugs nowadays that require other drugs to counter their side effects, and many people have multiple things wrong with them.

How about cutting those obscene agricultural subsidies to rich farmers?? Or, editing out that no-negotiation, price protection clause for the pharmaceutical companies in Bush's Medicare drug bill?
