The Condi factor
In hypothetical world, lets suppose Condi runs for president and gets the GOP primary nod. Assuming African American voters typically support GOP at about a 10% rate.

1. Do more black voters start voting for GOP?

2. Do independent women and even some dem women suddenly vote republican to get a woman in the WH?

3. Does the southern racist/misogynist white redneck republican vote cancel out any effects of #1 and #2?

3. Most Blacks won't be fooled.
By and large they are not too happy with J. Clarence Thomas, for example. Plus, the stigma of Mr. 2% will be attached to her. As far as women go, a majority of married women voted for Dubya last time around. The trick is not keeping them, but getting them back.

11. African Americans in my old neighborhood...
often expressed the belief that Condi was Bush's "girlfriend." And I think they meant that literally.

8. no - the gop will be back in '08 with a new face but the same policies
and ideolgy. low and middle income white guys will be distracted (by gays, blacks, terrorists, flags, immigrants, liberals whatever they can find) and vote against their own economic interests again.

10. While some of the "Base" would abandon the GOP
How many people who right now are swing voters would support Condi in the General Election? The so called "Reagan Democrats", would they stay with our party, or follow the Repugniks?

I agree with the post above, Condi would be bad news for us. It would be 2012 before we could honestly hope to get the White House back, and would have to dedicate ourselves to getting the House and Senate control. Before you say I am a "naysayer" or traitor, remember that all our candidates have run as Repugnik Lite for how long? If that is what we offer, repugnik Lite, Hillary or Edwards, who is right now checking the wounds where he was initiated into the Repugnik leaning Wall Street and big business interest, we are screwed in 08.

I wonder if we could run Cindy Sheehan, and does anyone know if Cindy vs. Condi numbers have been looked at? I would be willing to bet money that Cindy could whip any Repugnik they could dredge up from the bowels of hell, or wherever they get their candidates.

I don't think we can win the Racist Southerner vote, and if we did win that vote, would we want it? I mean, we need to get back into power, granted, but do we really want to gain power from votes of the KKK? Do either you or I really want to open the paper, and find out the John Birch Society has endorsed our candidate? I just can't see myself standing shoulder to shoulder with a "Son of the Confederacy" and cheering a Democrat. I would probably be bathing in disinfectant, and I am guessing all of you would too.
