Libby discussed Plame CIA role with Miller "well BEFORE" Wilson's article
Judy Miller's Article

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2005/10/15.html#a5396

Go read it and let me know what you think. I have to run out so I can't get to it now. There's a diary here. Atrios and AmeriaBlog join in the fun...

A Personal Account, by JM.

One quick thing from the article:

"My notes indicate that well before Mr. Wilson published his critique, Mr. Libby told me that Mr. Wilson's wife may have worked on unconventional weapons at the C.I.A. My notes do not show that Mr. Libby identified Mr. Wilson's wife by name. Nor do they show that he described Valerie Wilson as a covert agent or "operative," as the conservative columnist Robert D. Novak first described her in a syndicated column published on July 14, 2003 "

Isn't that a breach right there? Valerie Plame's connection (with or without her name) to Joe Wilson or to the CIA should never have been mentioned to anybody at all.

1. Yes, it's a breach. It's not necessary for Scooter to have leaked her
capacity or name. If he says "Wilson's wife" her name is public record by simply going to the county court house and looking at a marriage certificate which is public record.

Once her identity is public, and the fact that she worked for the CIA, her capacity is irrelevant, as ALL that had dealings with her anywhere at any time now know she was CIA.

He doesn't have to say "she worked undercover and her name was Valerie Plame." If someone she obtained info from reads an article written on known facts (she worked at CIA and was wife to Wilson, public records show her name to be Valerie Plame), her cover is already blown, they know what her capacity was without it being printed.

2. I'm AMAZED at how many times the "Wilson's Wife" defense has come up.
You have Wilson, and you have his wife. He only has one. When someone names "Wilson's Wife," they're naming Valerie Plame.

And yet over and over and over again we keep getting this baloney about references to "Wilson's Wife" with the disclaimer "...but she wasn't mentioned BY NAME..."

3. They can say it all they like, it's not a valid defense.
The name is a matter of public record.
