Iraq; "What would happen if we withdrew?"
Edited on Sat Oct-15-05 09:45 PM by LynnTheDem
"What would happen if we withdrew? We cannot abandon Iraq to anarchy and confusion".
-Lloyd George, British PM, warning of civil war in Iraq if the British Army left.

Oops wrong.

-"We come as liberators, not as occupiers."

Oops wrong.

-"We should be received in Baghdad with the same cordiality as in southern Iraq and that the Turkish troops would offer little if any opposition".

Oops wrong.

-"We must be prepared... to go very slowly with constitutional and democratic institutions."

Oops wrong.

That was Britain's first failed attempt to occupy Iraq. And as always, the imperialist conquerers made the same bullshit noises they make today; sure sounds familiar, don't it.

PS; Britain lost 40,000 troops in that attempted occupation.

1. No more American troops would die or be wounded!
The people that love those magnetic "Support the Troops" ribbons don't seem to care that pulling out of Iraq immediately and unconditionally is the best way to support the troops, by saving lives that would otherwise be wasted in a pointless mistake.

Great post, LynnTheDem! It is nice to remind fellow DUers that the US is replaying the role of British colonialism in Iraq, much as the US played the role of French colonialism in Vietnam.

This war is lost, let's go home and bury the dead and nurse the wounded!

2. Well probably the Mid-East will once again become a big
breeding ground for terrorists-in-training (thanks, George). But if we spend our money securing our borders, ports and airways and generally mind our own business, we will probably be in much better shape than we are now. However, given that a large majority of our population feel compelled to be moral police, the odds aren't so good.

3. Only Bush could put us in lose lose situations over and over.
Where we have no good options.
