A call to arms....
Many here have expressed their view that if specific candidates win the nomination, that they are not going to participate or will vote for a third party candidate. This thread is not an argument against that viewpoint, and I ask that it not become that.

What I am suggesting is that if this is in fact the case, let me offer you an alternative that will do just as much to unseat Bush and the repugs....

Too many of the Dems do absolutely nothing with regards to helping the party win on election day. There are many reasons for this, you live in a repug district, you are turned off by the dem who represents you, etc...

The key here is to drain the swamp of the repug money farm....if we can make the repugs compete in as many areas as possible, this will divert more and more funds away from concentration of resources...

So, if you choose to not support our nominee, or will just vote...put your energies into getting a dem elected to the governorship, Senate, House, state legislature, school board, hell...dog catcher....push them everywhere!!!!!

Go to the DNC for infomation on dem federal candidates....

Look up your state's dem party organization....

Do something....make them pay everywhere!!!!

To often we have surendered the fight, but if we can raise the costs of a state legislative race by even $2,000, we have hurt the repugs....a House race by $20,000...we have hurt the repugs....

Put some effort somewhere...and together we can bring the entire stinking house of cards called the republican party down!!!

Think of it like serving in the national guard....two weekends a month and four weeks in the summer.....

Should you protest against doing even this....I suggest that you first take a look at this web page...than talk to me about how valuable your "time" is...

good luck one and all...

1. This is a wonderful idea
Actually to get a Democratic majority in the Senate and House is really more important than to get a Democratic President (except for Judicial appointments).

Not to mention that local politics is a lot of fun. You usually get to meet your House Representative and they are the most immediately responsive to your letters. Also supporting County council, Sherrif and Treasurer are cool and you get to meet them at local pancake breakfests and stuff where you meet like-minded Democrats.

2. Good idea.
I will be spending some time helping re-elect Barbara Boxer. I don't know about local races; if a democrat is running, I'll contact them and see what I can do. I've lived here for 23 years, and I've never seen a democrat in the local city councils or as our local state reps. Although I know there were a few earlier than that. What I'd really like to do is get enough energy going to oust Howard "Buck" McKeon from the house in '04.

3. You make an excellent point!
Making the Republicans compete in "safe" states for every legislative and house seat can only benefit the country as a whole. Reps should have to spend resources campaigning in rural areas, too.

In the meantime, Republican officeholders would have to ask themselves whether they REALLY want to run for re-election on the radical right wing agenda promoted by the current administration.

Also, when we elect a Democratic President in 2004, wouldn't it be great to have a Democratic majority in Congress?

4. When people don't know what to do...
... I always suggest a donation to the State or county democratic party. :)

7. Start here:
An email receive this morning from Democrats.com:

You can make a history today!
There are only 14 women in the US Senate, even though women are 53% of the electorate.

Illinois has an open Senate seat and Nancy Skinner, a progressive Democrat, has a great chance to win. skinnerthewinner.com

If you donate just $15 for the 15th woman Senator today - and forward this e-mail to your mailing list - we will put together the resources to put one more woman in the US Senate!

Our goal is to raise $1,500,000 over the Internet from progressive Democrats. You may not have a woman or a progressive in your state to vote for, but you can help elect one in Illinois!

Thank you and Happy Holidays!
Nancy Skinner

I just cut and paste the email; if the "click here" links don't work, just use the link to her site.
