Bush and Repubs playing "deep" politics with this Miers nomination
They want the Democrats to be seen as the ones killing her nomination, in my opinion. They were caught by surprise when most of the opposition came from their own right-wing. If they can hold on for a few more days, they believe they will be able to convince the public that it is the Democrats that are holding up her "nomination". The truth is, in my opinion, that they never thought Miers would be the nominee in the first place. She was set up as a diversion to get in the real person they want on the Court, the next nominee that takes her place.

That doesn't mean the Democrats should "support" Miers. That means they should not be so quick to fall into the Republican "trap". I'm sure we have some leaders in the Senate that are thinking along these lines. Democrats should hold their cards close to their vest for the next few days or weeks and let the Repubs maneuver. When the time for the vote arrives, they should vote against her because she is simply not qualified. But they should not let their intentions be known at this time.

This is the best advice I've heard so far from those who don't want to openly derail the nomination. This makes sense, while the calls for supporting her with faint praise just makes Dems looks weak comparatively speaking. Let them "pick" the nominee by voting around the Dem opposition.

Just as the Reps were expected to vote against Clinton's nominees, they can expect us vote as a bloc regarding Bush's nominees.

6. A few kind words may be in order as in the following ....
I understand that she's a fine TRIAL LAWYER. We could use the perspective of a TRIAL LAWYER in the Supreme Court.

Her firm donated to HILLARY CLINTON. She must be a very OPEN MINDED person if her firm donated to HILLARY CLINTON as well as George Bush.

She seems like a person who is able to CHANGE HER MIND. She used to be a Catholic and a DEMOCRAT and now she's an Evangelical Christian and a Republican. She's CHANGED HER MIND before and could do it again.

and so on and so on.

Oh yeah I think the Democrats should vote against her too.

7. this is why I think it is ok for the Dems to
keep out of the fray this time.
Like Harry Reid and his supportive words when miers was introduced- could it be driving the republic party nuts for the D's not to take the bait?

Fo once their pussiness might be a decent strategery.

By *not* getting into it will keep them from being labelled as big baby obstructionists, come election time.
I hope that is the case; hope it works!

8. I think Bush doesn't care what his base thinks
He already "won" in '04 and now he doesn't need his base anymore. Rove did HIS job by calling Dobson and telling him she's "one of them." I think Rove did his best with Bush's choice which clearly he picked on his own, judging by what a mistake it seems to be. I don't think he picked her so he could get his "real" choice in after she's rejected-he could've gotten his real choice in NOW. I wish all the Dems. would vote FOR her so they come out looking like they are pro-"woman" and can switch the Repubs.' game around. They always accuse the Dems. of being anti-woman, anti-minority, whatever, if they reject someone based on REAL reasons. So they should make the REPUBS. look bad by voting FOR her with just enough Repub. votes to get her through. Afterall, are we going to like it when his next choice revitalizes his base and he puts in a "known" hard-liner like J.R.Brown?

9. When White House prostitute Jeff Gannon gets fingered by Fitzie
Edited on Tue Oct-11-05 12:12 PM by SpiralHawk
in the Bush White House Treason scandal, Miers will be among the Humpty Dumptees who Have A Great Fall. She approved the prostitute's "press passes" for about 200 visits to the Bush White House, according to Secred Service records.

Now a male prostitute in the Bush White House 200 X is indeed DEEP politics.
