Judith Miller turns over notes on Libby....
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 10:49 PM by windbreeze
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A New York Times reporter has given
investigators notes from a conversation she had with a top aide
to Vice President Dick Cheney weeks earlier than was previously
known, suggesting early White House involvement before the
outing of a CIA operative, legal sources said.

Times reporter Judith Miller discovered the notes -- from a June
2003 conversation she had with Cheney's chief of staff, Lewis
"Scooter" Libby -- after her testimony before the grand jury last
week, the sources said on Friday. She turned the notes over to
federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald and is expected to meet him
again next Tuesday, the sources said.

Miller's notes could help Fitzgerald establish that Libby had started
talking to reporters about CIA operative Valerie Plame and her
diplomat husband, Joseph Wilson, weeks before Wilson publicly
criticized the administration's Iraq policy in a Times opinion piece,
the sources said.

One source involved in the investigation said the new information
could help Fitzgerald show a long-running and orchestrated
campaign to discredit Wilson, which could help form the basis
for a conspiracy charge.

6. Joe Conason said something interesting today
on the Franken show. He said that Ashcroft had reluctantly started the investigation but there was such a big stink made, and rightly so, that he should not be the one to do it and was forced to recuse himself, so he picked Fitzgerald. We all remember that.

Now, here is the good part. Ashcroft had it for about three months before Fitz took over. Conason thinks Rove probably waltzed in there and lied thinking he had nothing to worry about.

That could explain why he has been asked to go back so many times. His lies don't jive with anyone else's testimony. Interesting, huh?

9. Who is Judith Miller? Bio>>
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judith_Miller_(journalist)

>Judith Miller (born 1948 in New York City) is a journalist for the New York Times. A controversial figure<1>, Miller has garnered criticism for her false reporting on WMD claims which supported the Iraq War, and both acclaim and criticism for her staunch defence of confidential sources related to the Valerie Plame scandal.

On October 12, 2001, Judith Miller received an anthrax hoax letter mailed to her New York Times office...

Shortly after Miller's article was published, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell and Donald Rumsfeld all appeared on television and pointed to Miller's story as a partial basis for going to war. Subsequent analyses by various agencies all concluded that there was no way the tubes could have been used for uranium-enrichment centrifuges.<<

14. paineinthearse, cool name - thanks for the links
I love the name. Tom Paine was a great one. A good friend is reading Paine now, and we were lamenting the lack of intelligent discourse of the variety that was standard in those days. To read the Federalist Papers is to lament the modern debate, such as it is.

17. DU is a cool place!
Edited on Sat Oct-08-05 09:02 AM by Neil Lisst
Thanks.

I've been posting a long time at News Hounds, but they don't have any kind of registration, so some rightwing stalker started posting as me there. He became a big problem, so I've stopped posting there for now. It's a real hassle when someone can post under your name.

I've looked at the DU many times, but the size of the place always kept me from posting. I can't believe how fast the threads move, even on the weekend.

I'm using the comic to get my messages out to a public with short attention spans and no appetite for reading. Alas, we don't all love to read and write.
