CBS: Bush's attempt to scare people basically pissed them off this time
That's my take on it...what they actually said was "If you attempt to scare people it will sometimes have the opposite effect."

The two reporters talk about Bush's prediction of the "Islamo-fascists" (or whatever the hell he dubbed them) "surrounding half the globe," and conclude that MAYBE...just MAYBE...he went a little too far this time.

You've GOT TO WATCH the video clip on the CBS News site:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/10/06/opinion/polls/main924485.shtml

...it's "must-see TV," and the companion clip to the article on the same page, "Poll: Bush Ratings Hit New Low"...

Moral of the story: Bush tried to milk 9/11 again in order to prop up his sagging ratings and he JUST SUNK THEM FURTHER.

:toast:

2. This is quite telling:
"The public's concerns affect their view of the state of the country. Sixty-nine percent of Americans say things in the United States are pretty seriously off on the wrong track — the highest number since CBS News started asking the question in 1983. Today, just 26 percent say things are going in the right direction. "

3. Bush changed the time of his speech, didn't he?
I thought he was going to have it in the evening. If it's true that he changed it, I wonder if he already knew of the alleged threat, so decided to put his speech first. This would also explain why he sounded so (for him) coherent in the speech - he was wrapping himself around a familiar idea.

4. Yes, I thought it was supposed to be a prime time speech.
My first thought when I saw it in the morning was "Oh, GAWD, he's not doing TWO today, is he?"

7. Good, then my memory was not playing me false
I heard snatches of it on Stephanie Miller's show and wasn't sure it was the speech scheduled for yesterday.

19. I thought the same
Thought it would be prime time. Got home from work and hubby was talking about all the blather he'd heard in the speech. But maybe it was decided it would be better to have the speech before "happy hour" time.

8. You know, a few weeks ago the enemy were in "their last throes"
and now according to Chimpy, they're about to take over half the globe...

Either the GOP has fucked up the war spectacularly in the past few weeks (and covered it up) or they don't have a clue as to what's going on...

12. I'm not sure...I saw it for the first time today on the CBS News site...
The real story here is the one-two punch, when you couple this with Keith Olbermann on "Countdown" last night.

He was talking about the "terra alert" in New York and mentioned the REMARKABLE COINCIDENCE that occurs EVERY time Bush is in trouble...he cited a list that someone made of 10 times in which Junior was having problems and lo and behold...a new warning that terrorists are about to strike.

The Dems knew this all along, and now the "base" is sweating the 1006 elections. These days, the quack of lame duck Bush is bigger than his bite.

20. Hell,their more afraid of Oil BARONS and gas GOUGING than OBL...
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 07:29 PM by OneTwentyoNine
Maybe Bush should try and get in tune with ANYONE that isn't a MILLIONAIRE in the real World and see what REAL Americans are going through.

GD Oil is almost TEN $$$ per barrel less than Labor Day when prices hit record highs. Where's the BIG ASS price drop at?? The price has trickled down somewhat around here but not even close to where it should be.

We're getting the HELL screwed out of us by Bush and his Oil barron friends--even the DUMBEST Freeper can figure this one out and has handed Bush his ASS with these newest approval ratings.
