Snappy comeback needed ....
On another forum i post, a freeper started this:

Many people today see the Democrats as Socialists with their "entitlements" and "playing field-leveling" and "gov't knows best" policies and positions. And the only opposition to turning American into a Socialist state is to vote Republican.

I started writing this, but would like some help:

Many people today see the Republicans as war mongering, fiscally unsound, corporate whores, who pander to ignorant and intolerant Christian extremists.

4. Possible snappy comeback
Well, many people might indeed see Democrats as a "government knows best" kind of group. Republicans, however, firmly in control of all three branches of government as well as most major media outlets, have clearly shown that they don't know anything at all. Billions wasted, hundreds of thousands murdered, and they can't even get together a decent disaster response with a week's notice because they're all on another month-long vacation.

8. It's the GOP that gets all the entitlements
Tax breaks for the rich, corporate breaks, easing of environmental restrictions for energy business buddies, a well-filled trough for fundamentalist churches, no bid contracts for crony corporations, appointments of unqualified fund-raising pals to key positions...if that isn't welfare for the wealthy, what is???

10. Tell them...
To check real numbers and facts and stop listening to sound bytes and slogans.

Ask them whether it's a Democrat or Republican who's curerntly in the White House telling us for the last 5 years that he was protecting us, and that we should "trust him" and that they know best, and that we went to Iraq to get rid of Saddam's WMDs (which we now know didn't exist)... Ask him who's handing out entitlements to the corporations and oil companies right now, asnd ask themm who they think pays for all of those entitlements... (answer: their taxpayer dollars)

Also ask them what's wrong with leveling the playing field? And if there's something wrong with that, what direction do they think the "playing field" should be tilted? (answer: away from brown-skinned people?)

12. Tell them "crony capitalism" just isn't working...
There are many examples: FEMA disaster, Halliburton no-bid contracts, skyrocketing oil prices, prohibition on importing inexpensive drugs, Social Security "privatization," to name a few. The GOP had their chance and proved the crony capitalism isn't working. We are not better off than we were 5 years ago. Letting corporate America run the show simply does not result in a better USA.

15. Who
used and abused EVERY good principle of free market and capitalism to RUIN our nation and make us all second guess everything we ever believed in, dividing us into these separate camps of thought, when all along, it doesn't matter, it won't help, because the real PROBLEMS have NOTHING to do with the system because they BROKE the system and BROKE the law and BROKE the constitution. Now, we don't know what to trust, and we don't' even perceive the difference between an economic system and a governmental system, somehow believing our economic system is responsible for our bad government.

All for greed. Way to go repubs. You took everything you said you believed in, and allowed it to be perverted far past it's meaning, all the while calling it capitalism.

Capitalism? Privatization? Well, wouldn't Privatization be for companies that have NO connection to government? Didn't the cronies do all the "ruining"? Wouldn't capitalism mean some smart folks would already BE solving the energy crisis, would ALREADY be making the economical cars, what happened to supply and demand? Sure. Great job repubs, you've managed to make free market look like cannibalism.

Made a MOCKERY of religious freedoms, by implying that ONE religion, and a rather RESTRICTIVE religion at THAT, could and should represent us all. As if religious issues haven't been fought over throughout human history, and as if THAT couldn't take down a nation all by itself. That crap we all learned as kids in school, the Puritans seeking religious freedoms? They made a mockery of it.

Sorry, this isn't very snappy. I know I'm in some ways in that camp you abhor, but in this fight, I'm on your side. What they want is not capitalism, it's fascism, rule of the elite, rule OF big business, and THAT runs absolutely contrary to free enterprise, and it always did. They say they're "for" free market, and I'll hand you all the ammo you want to fight that.

17. Today's Republicans are basically Dixicrats wrapped in a
confederate flag. The entitlements they speak of eliminating were born from basic human decency.

Aside from the "entitlements" being the right thing to do, ask them have they considered what would happen in this country if we didn't take care of the less fortunate? There are a lot less rich people in this country than poor; the divide is getting greater with *'s ransacking the programs that aid those who can't help themselves; can you picture a huge uprising in this country? I can.

Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 01:37 PM by BlueCaliDem04
Many people including Republicans today, see the GOP as the party of Anti-American Corrupt Cronyism with their deluge of indictments, "affirmative action" solely for the rich, using taxpayer's money for "nation building", and fake Christian values used as bait & switch to make an ass out of uninformed, but well-meaning people for their vote. The only opposition to this party of rancid breeding of culture of corruption; fake Christian values and "corporatocracy" (also known as FASCISM as a former neo-Nazi leader, Mussolini coined it) is to clean "house" (White House and Congress) and VOTE DEMOCRAT.

24. Whatever the reply your problem strikes at the heart of the matter
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 02:24 PM by Cell Whitman
Conservatives have been conditioned with DECADES of right wing propaganda - via the lies and bullshit they have been TRAINED to believe a liberal is something so evil they will never vote for one. Never. Reality is not the basis in their thinking but they do not know that. They mean well.

On an individual basis, once the right has smeared an opponent with the BS that person will never be seen as viable by them. Never. Like Durbin - there is a guy with one great record for honesty, straight talking, good man, very good man. I was amazed how they didn't seem to have an answer to him. Well, as we know now, one statement they can twist about and now Durbin does not exist to these people. He never will again. Never.

If you are familiar with cults, the right literally operates as one. This is just what cults do. They identify the "enemy" of the group and then demonize them with BS.

The right can move misinformation with lightening speed to support this, as you also know. I think it takes them no longer than 24 hours to make their cult think anything they want them to.

What liberals don't seem to get is that this is a cult. Many liberals continue to act like what we are dealing with is normal politics or just the current product of the free market of ideas. It is not. Half the politically minded folks in the nation have had mind control techniques used on them for so long they no longer have critical thinking skills. I am not saying their leaders sat back and said "hey let's mind control these people." But the tactics they used to come to power are in fact mind control techniques. The demonizing of information sources not approved or in anyway critical of the cult being the most pervasive.

You know when they call you a "Bush hater"? That is not to needle you. It is to marginalize you as too mentally unstable to be taken seriously, you are irrational. They don't have to deal with what you say, facts do not matter. Reality does not matter. Its a mind control technique the way they use it. It closes their minds, it is a form of information control.

The right is conditioned to react to anything negative said about the cult with doublethink and rationalization. i.e. your friend sees no choice even if he wanted to...

He is not a bad person, he is a controlled person. He is in a political cult. You can tell him anything he will NOT listen.

This is a huge national security problem for many reasons but no one is paying attention to it.

25. Try this
"By Socialist state, do you mean one in which all Americans earn a wage they can live on that pays fairly for the work they do and hours they work? One where all people can actually have access to quality health care and quality education? Do you mean a society in which agendas are set with people and public welfare in mind, and not corporate profits and only the wealthiest Americans? Because, you are absolutely right, the best way to prevent that from taking place is voting Republican.

"Or, do you mean a society in which the central government is large, grows beyond all proportion, spends taxpayer money however it chooses without regard to such a degree that it drives our society into massive deficits at the risk of our future? One that acts only to promote itself, to make itself more powerful, one that crushes the states and forces them to submit to the central government? One that has absolute, unquestioned authority over all aspects of peoples lives, and goes as far as even banning books and ideas? Because, thanks to the GOP and Bush, its already here. Congratulations."

Of course, that might be a little too wordy for your average Bush loyalist.

26. World's biggest entitlement program?
That would be the republi-CONS' assumption that they're entitled to all the marbles.

Or, the entitlement the bush family feels it has to a certain piece of real estate at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The "divine right of kings" I think they'd say.
