The Bush Implosion-The Quickening Disintegration
by Welshman

This is an excellent diary. Well worth the read.

Like many of you, I witnessed the Press Briefing by Bush earlier in the week.

Unlike many of you, I didn't see an alcoholic or a drug abuser. I saw a tired, jaded man who has lost all confidence. A man who senses that his place in history will be marked by his recklessness in sending
the sons and daughters of his country to die in an unjust foreign war whilst the poor and the needy at home were neglected and ignored.

He is man whose time in office will be remembered only for lies and corruption and the giving to the rich whilst squandering the wealth that has mortgaged the future prosperity of forthcoming generations and has turned a proud nation into one disdained by all others.

snip...

Yesterday, I was glued to C-Span watching the Senate debate the $440 billion military spending bill. I watched a terrified Republican Party being reminded by Democratic speaker after Democratic speaker forewarning about the hidden costs of the two wars in which the US is engaged, of the funding that was not there for its disabled and injured veterans returning from war.

Major Business Groups Split With Bush Administration Over Patriot Act
By Michael J. Sniffen Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - Some of the nation's most powerful business groups are splitting with the Bush administration over whether to restrict the anti-terror USA Patriot Act.

Congress Seeks to Slash Food Aid for Poor, Conservation
By Libby Quaid Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democrats are fighting attempts to make cuts in food stamps and conservation programs at a time when people are coping with hurricanes and drought.

snip...

For the Democratic Party what is happening may provide exhilarating justification of their forewarning to the American people. One may see less and less of the compromises that have so angered the progressive left of its party.
MORE.
.........................................................
As the R's show the world daily just how corrupt and incompetent they are, it is not enough. The Dems in Congress must hear our call to fight and raise their voices to take our country back!
I think we are seeing it start to happen.

1. I completely agree with you

and thanks for the post. I seriously doubt he's a heavy duty alcoholic or drug user. He might well be off the wagon, however. But I think he is scared, tired, frustrated, and ... yes, bored. It isn't fun anymore. It shows.

4. Absolutely
A born underachiever doesn't need a 'new' excuse. But yeah, this is a guy finally feeling some pain. :) :hi:

3. The Democrats do seem to be getting their voice and not a
minute too soon. If we don't show strong leadership and develop a clear program for the future, we will not only lose elections but we run the very serious risk of losing our democracy. Never in my life time have our principles been more endangered. If we don't offer a clear and convincing alternative from these crooks the likelihood is that the cynicism of the electorate will continue to grow.Representative government cannot survive in an alienated, disspiirited people. We have to fight like our way of life depends on it because it does.

5. I also haven't seen the rather extreme characterizations

of his condition that float around DU. Maybe my ignorance or lack of experience but I just find it overblown and wishful thinking.

However, I did find him highly defensive when challenged and it was in those cases, with his anger seemingly engaged, that his mumbling and dissembling seemed to evaporate and he made very forceful responses.

The rest of the time was spent reframing questions and wandering off the subject.

8. Maybe I have found a new way to be optimistic about
the Democratic Party. Instead of walking around with my jaw on the floor wondering where the hell my party leaders are I can take solace in the fact that there never are nor ever will be any leaders. The people lead. They lead when they no longer buy the current BS. The people give the cues for our 'leaders' to stand up and be counted. The people frame the arguments and the discontent and the solutions. Our leaders are simply manifestations of the collective conciousness. It is still up to us. It is still up to me.

10. Yes, yes, yes!
They work for US! The right thinks for their constituents. That's why they stoop to smear and lies to win. They have a very narrow view. The 'contract ON America' is what is in the last throes.

16. "It is still up to us. It is still up to me."
Righter words have never been spoken.
They have always been true. The battle is never lost unless we give up.

9. really good article.
this article made me feel better. Thank God people are opening their eyes. It's been a long wait.

I was ready for this day about 5 years ago. It took a while. I almost lost hope: thought there was no hope for this country.

But PAIN is an awfully powerful motivator. And we've got plenty of it.

Now if we can just spray the place with Raid....

Thanks for posting, C.

15. Wow, major business groups split with Bush over Patriot Act?!
At last, his true consituency is opposing the Patriot Act. So at last the Patriot Act's days must be numbered!
