4. They shouldn't use the military for this purpose.
Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 07:38 PM by Canuckistanian
The military is for fighting foreign aggressors here and abroad.

There should be another body set up, modeled after say, the Gestapo or the Stasi, with broad arrest and seizure powers.

With local field offices in every neighborhood so that intelligence can be gathered and coordinated faster.

And a "party representative" should be in every school, business and public building to "monitor" ongoing situations.

Pretty soon, everything will be running so smoothly, there won't be any need for details like "elections" or "representation".

5. The whole point of letting NOLA drown was to establish this
precedent...military control over domestic activities. The public gleefully goes along. What fools!

Or else they don't care. The next thing the admin will do to "cut costs" is to enact a new "quarering act": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quartering_Act

10. In NO I would have liked the military to use their
equipment for evacuation, rescues, immediate refugee housing (tents, etc.), mess tents to feed the hungry, medical mash units to treat the sick, and other humanitarian uses. There are dozens of bases very close to that area. My niece and her husband are setting at Fort Hood in Texas only about 3 hours away. Can you imagine the outcome if bushie had bothered to use what he had? I don't think anyone would have complained if he did it without "authority" in the face of Katrina.

15. The real point is....
We already have the military forces that are supposed to do this...It is called National Guard...however, kinda convenient, that THEY are in Iraq, fighting this war, when there ARE troops at home on the FEDERAL level who could be there instead...The National Guard are each state's military...they shouldn't be in Iraq...

It's about Bush wanting the right to insert FEDERAL troops into any situation that arises in this country, including an outbreak of avian/bird flu, to ENFORCE community quarantine, if it's felt it's needed..Now remember here, that avian flu, is in our own WMD arsenal...so where is this flu pandemic going to come from?...I gotta tell you, I don't want to see FEDERAL troops enforcing/policing anything in my town....it should remain a NO NO...

So then is this why Cheney referred to NOLA, as an exercise perhaps? To see IF the people would welcome the troops with open arms, and be grateful to them for being there? Kissinger said, that the time would come, that the people would welcome troops to make them feel safe...I don't know how safe I would feel with armed strangers "protecting" me, or pointing guns in my face, and giving me orders...I suggest we be very careful what we wish for...it becomes more obvious with every passing day, that this country is in serious trouble with Bush and cronies at the helm..and IF we allow this, and welcome it with open arms...then what little Democracy we have left is in serious danger...imo..

I have never forgotten that Bush stated, how he thought it might be fun to be a dictator, as long as he WAS the dictator..and that, is exactly what he's up too...
