DU research: List of candidates who received Delay $$$ ???
Anybody know where we can find a list of Republican candidates who received campaign money from Tom Delay or one of his PACs? If they received money in 2004 or before, it can be used to tar them and if they received money for 2006 races, they should be pressured to give it back or explain why not.

3. Thanks, but those look like all sitting members of Congress
What about unsuccessful R candidates? Or candidates he might be grooming for 2006? Is there a way to track those contributions? My current rep is a Democrat and probably in no danger, but he is facing the same guy (Jim Feldcamp) he beat in 2004 and I seem to remember that Delay gave him money then.

2. I know my rep, Mike Ferguson (NJ-07) is at the top of one list.
Unfortunately, I don't remember which list it is, but it had him receiving over $42,000 from DeLay. Steve Brozak ran against him last time. I'd love to see him and his countless full-color campaign flyers out of here.

6. The total is $54,403

You can the totals here and read about Ferguson's refusal to return the money here.

He also got $132,000 from a fundraiser that both DeLay and Jimmy Ellis (who runs TRMPAC and ARMPAC and was indicted, too) coordinated in 2001. In fact, Ellis bragged that he was the one who called Ferguson to tell him he was getting the cash.

And then don't forget to check out the $27,000 Ferguson sent to Texas Republican Congressional candidates for last year's election.

4. Another topic ripe for more exposure is the House Ethics Committee
Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 04:07 PM by Carla in Ca
Some 'fair' R's have been replaced with ones who donated to DeLay's defense fund. These replacements were outrageous in that the rules were changed to protect the slimeball. Let's get them, too!

snip...

Republican leaders put on the committee two new members who have donated to a DeLay legal fund: Rep. Lamar S. Smith (R-Tex..) and Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.). Smith gave DeLay $10,000, making him among the seven largest donors among congressional members, and Cole gave $5,000, according to an analysis of disclosure records by the watchdog group Public Citizen.

Washington, DC - Four out of five Republicans on the House Ethics Committee have received donations from Tom DeLay's ARMPAC, and all five Republicans have traded favors with DeLay. How can we expect a real investigation of DeLay's ethical violations, if half the committee members—including Chairman Hastings—have received thousands of dollars from DeLay?

"Once again, the Republicans are abusing their power by protecting their own. Every single Republican on the Ethics Committee has financial ties to Tom DeLay," said DNC Communications Director Karen Finney. "If Republicans are serious about restoring credibility to the Ethics Committee, they must recuse themselves from this investigation. This is a disturbing conflict of interest."

8. MI gubenatorial candidate and uber-Resmuglican Dick DeVos
"DeVos and his Political Action Committee (PAC), Restoring the American Dream have exchanged thousands of dollars with DeLay, his campaign committee and his PAC, Americans for a Republican Majority. DeVos gave the Tom DeLay Congressional Committee $1,000 in 2000 and gave DeLay's PAC $5,000 in 1999. DeLay's PAC in turn gave DeVos' PAC $5,000 over the course of two weeks in the fall of 2000."

"DeLay's soft money indictment comes as DeVos refuses to explain reports on the tax loophole inserted into the 1997 budget bill which benefited Amway nearly $300 million. Amway's tax giveaway occurred while Dick DeVos was president of the company and after Amway and the DeVos family had given millions of dollars in soft money to various Republican groups during the 1990's."
