Amtrak service to DC delayed this morning
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2005/9/24/103412/375

"Trains out of NYC have been "delayed" since at least as early as 6:40 a.m. The place was packed and there were lots of people holding signs for the march (my favorite: Make Levees, Not War). I went up to one of the groups and they said that they sat on a train for 2 hours before they were told to get off. They told me that they were told that some electrical repair was done on the route between NYC and Trenton, NJ....suggested that it was elective. I spoke to a couple of folks and the concensus was that the timing of the repair seemed, how you say, convenient. I also saw a very white, red-faced idiot who was saying something to three cops about the protesters signs being "fire hazards." Fortunately, the cops were looking at him like he was insane. The signs were still there when I left. "

Rather convenient way of keeping protesters from DC event. Hmmmmmmm...
It's unclear whether service is back to normal yet.

1. Take the Path to hoboken and NJ Transit to Trenton and then get on
the Amtrak to DC, or take the comuter trains to Philly and get on the Amtrak there.

14. One Kossak said he gave up on Amtrak and spent a nice day with his wife
I wonder how many people would have showed, if the bush regime hadn't tried to sabatoge by making problems with three of the 4 MetroRail lines, Metrobuses, and Amtrak?

No standing room!!

3. See...
It just proves we are wrong when we say Bush is just like Hitler. Hitler made the trains run on time; Bush makes the trains NOT run on time!

8. Metro is running -
- and is running on the normal weekend schedule. Looks like one of the lines had a problem but they are having trains share tracks to resolve the issue. Here's the link to see if there are Metro delays, etc: http://www.wmata.com/riding/system_alert.cfm

7. Notice the connection to N.O.: don't rely on public services, not because
they're inherently unreliable, but because people with political agendas might not want them to work at certain moments.

They'll work well enough when you need to get to your exploitative job. But not when you want' to express your opposition to a government which has created that exploitative reality...

9. And so it begins.........
the intentional disruption of our Constitutional right to gather in protest. Greater, darker forces have been brought to bear against our peaceful right of assembly. Does anyone doubt that our country has gone from creeping to running fascism? This cannot stand. This must be considered the first shot by a dark, sinister government intent on destroying the liberties we hold so dear. This is blatant subversion of our inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

17. Keep those emails going out to the media and Congress
I know it is boring and doesn't seem like it does any good but their are members of the Oligarchy who do not want to spend their lives and their children's lives in bunkers however luxurious and all all * war could knock the earth off its axis so their are those in positions to do something about it who might be given courage if they see the majority of the American people are no longer fooled by *.

Dear Brian, Thank you for your coverage from the hurricane sites. Very disturbed by local affiliates having to agree or censor you news reports.

I am also upset at the lack of coveage of one of the biggest anti-war demonstrations in DC and the deliberate sabatoge of MetroRail, Metrobuses and Amtrak and the "drills" reported online by Wash Post but not sure if in their print edition of Operation Geyser and Granite

Please report on the air about these suspicious activities on the part of "our" government.

10. ok, i gota tell you, Amtrack has LOTS of problems
Edited on Sat Sep-24-05 02:46 PM by don954
I took the train from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Philadelphia o nthe 1st of sept and it was delayed 3 times turning a 23 hour trip into a 35 hour trip due to broken trains on the tracks in front of us. I also took the Amtrak from Newport News, VA back to Fort Lauderdale and it also was delayed the same way for a 38 hour ride. Amtrak’s system is in bad need of better equipment and funding!!! I’m not too shocked to hear of an Amtrak train breaking down.

Oh ya, the conductor on the regional train from Newport News to the main line acted like a little Nazi, I had my 2 carry-on bags and 3 checked bags with me and he tried to say I couldn’t bring my checked bags due to them not having a bag car, even though I cleared it twice with the corp. office. He was literly yelling at me and tried to make me get off the train, until I started dialing the corp. office on my cell phone and told him so, then he basically said "you will have to carry them yourself" and ran away. (I was carrying them myself anyways...)

19. Amtrak Complaint
First please use the correct name if you are going to complain about something unrelated to the thread! The Amtrak policy for any trains is to limit carry ons to two bags 50# in weight no more. That info is what is stated by all Amtrak reservation agents. Checked baggage service is limited and if you asked about it you would have been told that Newport News has no checked baggage service.

yes, i know they didnt have checked baggage, i had a connection
and was told by the office that i would be allowed to carry on my checked bags on the short hop in order to get to my connecting long ride, not by one but by 2 agents. its not the riders fault the office people and the conductor didnt agree, and its not excuse for the guy to come up to me and start yelling at me at the top of his lungs.

15. Glad you mentioned the two other days planned to educate people in
continued Resistance to the Nazi Regime.

I read a while back that the organizers were hoping it might turn into an occupation of Washington, DC until the troops are brought home.

Bigwig Democrats like Hilary and Kerry left town. Cowards. Visit Rep. Conyers' blog and thank him for speaking at today's rally before the march.

16. BRIAN WILLIAMS ARTICLES STILL TRYING TO GET THE TRUTH OUT:
We are under police escort (we've done nothing wrong that I'm aware of, its just that there's not a light in New Orleans and we're in the beginnings of a hurricane and roadblocks are about) leaving the city of New Orleans after doing a live updated version of the broadcast for the West Coast. We are heading back toward Baton Rouge, which will place us regionally in a place where we can ride out the storm (we have different needs to anchor the broadcast and thus must travel with a larger army) and react and move in the morning if need be. The state of the city we're leaving behind is beyond tragedy. And as viewers keep reminding us in pleading e-mails, Mississippi is worse, in places.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8045532/ Scroll down to send Brian a message

A reminder: depending on whether your particular station agrees to "clear" it, we will do a special hour-long broadcast tonight. That would explain the fact that our friends back at NBC News headquarters are calling and e-mailing at twice their normal hurricane rate. No power here, but Blackberries are operating. In its role in helping
us cover storms, it ranks right up there with the invention of the Power Bar.

LOCAL STATIONS CENSORING BRIAN WILLIAMS HONEST REPORTS:wtf:

~We're getting sporadic wire reports via Blackberry, and I'm thrilled to read the oil rigs are largely intact and there have been no fatalities. What tells me it's safe to predict that the next time the Texas coastline is ordered evacuated, there will be gasoline tankers (with the ability to pump gasoline) on the shoulder of the Interstate at 10-mile intervals? Some things become crystal clear in the hindsight that comes from experience.

Satellite truck setting up at a high-water area along the river. We'll see you on the air for a special hour-long edition (for most viewers) of NBC Nightly News.

Brian Williams he looks beyond exhausted on the home page

 :yourock:
