21. Why was Hitchens allowed to dominate the time with his bullshit?
He went on and on with his gibberish and ridiculous 18th century analogies. I so wanted more from Galloway who should've been allowed to cream Hitchens. Do you think he just didn't think it was worth it, that Hitchens was showing viewers that he was too ridiculous to bother with? Still, there would be those that thought he was besting Galloway.

19. Oh yes he did say it...
Then went babbling on about what a lovely and gentle woman she is. *gag*

Bill Maher said that was like saying that Hitler must be OK because his dog loved him and Hitchins accused him of...wait for it....being 'ungallant'. It was actually kind of surreal.

How could he honestly expect anyone to take him seriously when he berated Bill for "comparing Laura to a dog"? I fear his elevator will never go all the way to the top again. :nopity:

11. British author
who has written several politically inspired books, articles, etc. His latest is about Thomas Jefferson. For some bizarre and unknowable reason,he is in love with George Bush. He is a total lush and always appears to be drunk as a motor scooter every time he does an interview show.

42. Alot of the neocons used to be.
Several of them are ex-Trotskyists and if you look at the ideological details, they are not that dissimilar. It's my belief that the political spectrum is circular rather than linear, and that the extremes of left and right eventually meet up with each other. People who are attracted by absolutist ideologies often don't care about the particulars of the ideology so long as it remains absolutist in nature.

35. Yeah ..
It just wasn't a good lineup ... You know eventually Hitchens and Galloway would square off and it would not be about the show ...

Hitchens was late on the set, and late to leave, I think the tension between he and Galloway was just too great ...

I get that Maher is trying to balance things out a bit, but I really didn't like the second interview with Dickens or whoever he is, talking totally out of his ass ... Maher nailed him once or twice, and you could tell he was just cringing and dying to call him totally full of shit, but didn't cause of this would be balance thing ...

I kind of like Hitchens ... Of all the people whoring for the war, he is the first I have heard who doesn't just recite talking points over and over ... I don't agree, of course, but he just has more depth to his points than the average R-Con ...

He's isn't leaning anywhere except on his own behalf. He's an arrogant blowhard that is fully into imperialism, and I for one think he should get off his drunk ass and go fight in Iraq since he has a hard-on for that particular war.

37. Hitchens is like this really bad car wreck happening in front
Edited on Sat Sep-24-05 07:44 AM by Totally Committed
of our eyes. It's so bad that we just can't look away. But, it's happening in slow motion. And we watch and we watch, wondering if he'll hit a wall, roll the car over, or just skid out of control over a cliff. He's mesmerizing in that way. And, so sad.

There was a time, back in the 70's when he was still a raging Liberal, when he was really something. I don't know if he was so impressive because he hadn't started drinking around the clock yet, or if it was because he was then young enough to handle it, but he could really talk and write. Sure, he was arrogant, but it was an arrogance backed up by the promise of greatness. I used to think he would be my generation's Gore Vidal.

But, to look at him now and just see this ever-inebriated lush, slurring and spitting out such venomous trash. Ugh. The wasted potential just makes me want to cry.

That's happened with a few people I knew back then. To watch them now veer so catastrophically off-track and waste their potential for greatness makes my heart heavy.

He should have been better than this.

TC
